I'm looking to find out how to put multiple textures on one model. I know i can be done as it looks as tho the origanal hl2 content uses multiple materials.

Basicly i want two different maps on my character, one for the skin and one for the trousers/leather. I'm guessing both of these files are called in through the vtf and vmt info but some info on how its done would be awsome. How to set up the model in max is important to as i have no idea how its done.

you need to assign id's for your faces and then use a sub-object material from the material editor to assign the textures. assign an id of 1 to the skin , unwrap it and then follow the same procedure for the trousers (use a different id) don't worry about overlapping because the ids will be addressed separately.

I thought it would be done like that. Could you give me an example of a vmt please? Of how it calls up the materials?

try decompiling one of the v models from hl2 most of them have the guns and hands attached with seperate textures. oh and i want my name in the black messa source credits :P.

All you need to do is define the ID's and have the directory of all the textures your using listed correctly in the QC.

edit: Even if they are all compiled into different directories it will work aslong as you list them.

for example:

$cd materials 'models/weapons/v_1337gun' 'models/weapons/v_hands'
