My predicament

Ok, so I went and upgraded my machine to a top notch system and ordered an ATi X800 PE. So far I've been waiting for the card for about 2 months but I expected that since I get them at a big discount. The problem is I *really* want to play HL2 at maximum and since I upgraded my machine to ultimate spec it would be a waste to play it on anything less. So basically, I gotta go out and buy *another* X800 then play hl2 with that until my PE arrives. What's the best X800 for the money? I will be selling it on a few weeks after once I recieve my PE, so how much money do you think i'd loose by doing that? ;(

just wait.

damn you serious you want to waste money like that. Just play somewhat lower till you recieve your card.

I don't understand you crazy fanboys.

lol, I am a fanboi and I *need* to see it at max everything :afro:

OMFG IF TEH GRAPHEKZ IZ TEH N0T PERHFKET I STAEB SELF N FRONTHEAD WI7H CRAWBAR!!11

Yes, i'm a fanboy. Yes I will be havving at max.
Yes you can live without perfect graphics for awhile untill your card comes in.
Yes, i'm amazingly awesome.
*pats self on back*

Thanks for clearing that up. I think the only way to go is to buy another X800 PE now, then run them in SLI when I get the other one. :rolling:

btw, i'm running a Matrox Mystique 4mb at the moment. It runs Moto racer amazingly!!! :smoking:

I wasn't aware ATI were going the SLI route. I thought it was a Nvidia thing.

I remember ordering a 6800 ultra back in July. They STILL haven't got it in at the place I ordered it. Good job my GT does more than Ultra speeds.

I was joking about the SLI :D I've got an 9800Pro 128mb at the moment. I guess that should be able to cope well enough but not maxxed out. Meh, forget it. I think i'm going to stick with my 9800Pro and just wait :/

I reckon the 9800 will be able to handle it quite nicely at max detail. Ok not coupled with uber resolution but I reckon she'll do just fine.

I had a one before the GT and she was a great little card.

Out of curiousity, how much are you getting the PE for? And how? The top end cards are so rare I'm suprised anyone will be selling them for less the retail.

I work in the games industry so have ties. :D Lucky me :) Unfortunatly, as I get them as a favour i'm last on the list for the cards to go out to meaning I have to wait longer than everyone else if there's a shortage :(

I'll be playing it at 1280x1024 (LCD native res) so I'll just have to turn AA to 2x and AF to 4x or something. No big deal, certainly not worth the £100 i'd loose by buying/selling a new X800. grrrr, want my PE :( Maybe my 9800Pro can be overclocked to an XT? Anyone got any info on this?

I doubt i've got the right core either as I bought my 9800 when they first came out.

is this thread about how much you can flex your graphical muscles being able to afford the top cards, and a 9800pro not being good enough for you or buying two of an expensive card. If it is this is pretty pathetic...grow up and use your common sense.
Do you buy a brand new card just for a few weeks? you are joking me right? I'll stick with my piece of crap 9600XT to you. Honestly...shame on you for even thinking of this as a 'predicament'

Just clock it then. Thats the only difference between the two. That and the temp sensor.

you don't need to flash it (unless you want the willy waving name 9800 XT in the device manager).

EDIT: That was for the 9800 to XT guys

The 9800 runs at 371/350 I THINK!!! The XT is about 415/400 or something like that. Can't remember exactly. It's not that much of an oc. Easily doable.

ok, cool. I'll overclock it. I've got a watercooling GPU block so that should easily keep the temps down. As for Hectic Glenn, it's not a willy waving contest. I just happen to love games and half-life was the best game I ever played. Imagine my predicament like someone who loves fast cars and actually enjoys driving them round a track at full speed. I'm sure you have something that's better than me, your car? your house? whatever. I just like to spend my cash on my PC, is that a problem?

i never said it was...but this is just common sense. Do you seriously need to ask if you should by the same card you are getting in a few weeks anyway, when you 9800 pro will do the job nicely in that small time gap. I'm sure you are not that braindead to work out a simple thing like that. Its not a predicament its just a ridiculous idea.

Well I see a bigger problem on your hands. When you do get your X800, you're gonna be having a 9800pro just sitting there, burning a hole in your closet. Seems to me it would be put to much better use in my hands :smoking:

lol, already got someone buying my 9800, sorry :D Anyway, If I buy an X800 then sell it on a few weeks later it might have cost me some cash but after spending over £1000 on new bits for my PC it does'nt seem so much considering it's the only thing holding my pc back. If I had known I wouldn't have the X800 then I wouldn't have bothered upgrading and that would have saved me even more than I would loose.

Sorry, had to :dork:

Erm since when was a 9800 pro a bottleneck for Half-life 2?

You might want to take a closer look at the half-life 2 stress test results. From this you should realise that providing you have a good processor and sufficient memory, a 9800 pro card is more than enough to run the game fine on high settings.

But if your really so morbidly obsessed with running Half-life 2 with the best available hardware, wouldnt cancelling your existing order be a prudent idea before buying a new one?

I ordered a really good x800 xt a few months ago. I cancelled the order when I fought a very top of the line 6800 ultra in stock at best buy. so far it is running cs:s smooth as silk. anyway, I'm glad I cancelled that origional order. I suspect I'd STILL be waiting for it right now.
