If anyone else has been checking, you might have noticed the every other day upgrades on Steam's bandwidth. It's gone up about 2,000MBs in the past 2 weeks I believe, and this brings me to my theory. I think, and am hoping, that they just don't think they have the bandwidth they need to do this yet, so, if I am correct, as soon as they feel they can handle the strain on the system, they will release the Beta. The only other thing I could see pushing it back is the threat of the DDOS attacks, and if that is the case, I think it may still be a good while until we see it.

That sounds plausible..

Who are these DDOS attackers anyway, what do they want and why are they attacking?

They are attacking them because they believe it will give them back their WON servers, and they don't seem to realise they are going about it the wrong way.

whats this threat about ? which attackers DDOS ,WON al-Qaede what ?

It's about the Counter-Strike Source beta being delayed. From that to DDOS attacks to Terrorists... oh, the drama!

My Theory on why CS:S was delayed. It was going to be pre-loaded on the same date that Half-Life 2 was meant to be bug free. Half-Life 2 probably still has bugs. Some of these bugs are to do with the source engine. Hence they aren't going preload CS:S until these bugs are fixed.

My God, it makes sense! :D

Seriously.. If they had to make sure it's 100% bugfree then what is the point of 'BETA' 'TESTING'..

The point of beta testing is that they find new bugs. If they leave some in, then they are bound to get several hundred bug reports of bugs they already know.

But on the happier side, if I'm right then we'll know the exact day that Half-Life 2 is bug free and sent to Vivendi for testing.

It's more a network stress test/netcode test/way to get the source engine out to all types of hardware.

They are showing it anywhere and everywhere. How could it not be ready...

But your theory falls when the CS:S beta was supposed to begin preload for Cyber Cafe's in the very beginning of August or the end of July. Far before HL2 was supposed to be bugfree.
