Nanotechnology has been harnessed to kill cancer cells without harming healthy tissue.

The technique works by inserting microscopic synthetic rods called carbon nanotubules into cancer cells.

When the rods are exposed to near-infra red light from a laser they heat up, killing the cell, while cells without rods are left unscathed.

It's only a matter of time before Nanobots start swarming and killing people, just at Crichton predicted!

The only problem is that it's purely a first-second stopper, meaning, if you don't get the nanobots while you have the disease, there's no way to stop it.

And I imagine they will be really expensive :o

Expensive, indeed, but very cool as well. We finally have a cure for this, 2 people in my family has died from cancer so this really means something.

Great, I'm probably going ot have cancer, and these nanobots are going to be flaunted in my face, yelling "YOU CANT AFFORD ME YOU CHEAP PEICE OF DYING WASTE!"

Move to a country where they provide free health care.

Or win the lottery.

Or BOTH!!.....

I'm too poor to move to another country and win the lottery. How ironic

This is pretty much useless since they have no way of inserting them into every single cancer cell automatically, eh? As long as you're manually inserting these things into each cancer cell, might as well just kill the cell right then :|

Nanobots find the cells and kill them. It's all automatic.

They found some coral that has a chemical in it that can kill cancer cells.
They are trying to syntheticly reproduce this chemical, since this coral is rare.
Who needs the nanos, when you got coral.

Did you read the article? They're not using nanobots, they're just shoving nanotubes into cancer cells manually and then frying them under infrared light.

Then that's simply what they have now. They have plans for nanobots that somehow detect infected cells. The bots set their phasers to kill and assimilate the enemy.
