need help! how do you install new maps?

this might be a really stupid question but im totally new at this stuff... i apologize if this is posted in the wrong place.
anyways...
i just downloaded a map from facepunch studio. i want to load it in Garry's mod but i cant seem to uh..load it? i extracted the .bsp file into my maps folder in the garry's mod maps folder and my half life 2 maps folder but when i go to the game's menu(garry's mod), the map is not there.

is there a step im missing?

You did post this in the wrong place

Anyway hen you put a custom map into your maps folder the game won't recognize it in the menu (that requires editing the actual mod to do so)
So you need to open the console (by pressing ~, or if that doesn't work go to options > keyboard > advanced and turn it on) and then enter
map bspname
and garrys mod will load the map.
