OMG hl2 is so sweet...... 1 problem.. my comp is being a laggy piece of crap. Can you guys give some suggestions on how to get less lag?

umm my computer is not that great its ok tho pretty decent, wat do u need to kno?

Your processor, your ram, your graphics card, your operating system.

tone down the quality of the settings until u come up with good performance. Search the threads for how to turn off autosave, which stops any jagging framerates. If you are experiencing stuttering(sound) turn quality to medium, seems to be no real loss of quality from high to medium.
oh, also update all your drivers etc.

Processor: Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2.80Ghz
RAM: 512MB
Graphics Card: I dont kno where to find that but i kno its a pretty decent 1
Operating System: ?

Just make sure you have all the latest drivers, including the chipset ones that some people forget, run your OS with minimal services in the background.

stop some by Start>Run> Services.msc

and all the other junk you have running (Task Manager Anyone?), make sure your drive is not fragmented to bits, dont expect wonders from a low end box tho.

Other than that like Humplick said, Autosave Off and just playaround with the ingame settings ... its not rocket science people.

Umm,

Right click the My Computer icon or whatever you have it called, then Properties, Hardware, Device Manager

All you're hardware's there :)

Quicker display check

Rightclick the desktop, Properties
Settings tab .. it will have your Adapter name there
you can have a look under advanced for the Driver version as well.

OS?

General tab after you rightclick on my cmputer and properties its all there

having at least a gig free on your primary partition ( drive where ur OS is installed, usually c: ) is recommended.

Only to a point, it might improve the load times slightly.

The Biggest factor would be the drivers, BIOS of your mother board and the settings and how much crap you have running in the background like any Antivirus and stuff also System Restore is the beggest resource waster.. disable it when playing as it tends to backup system files at the least useful time ... like playing games.

also disable the fast indexing service if your running XP .. another wase of time

ill do all that plus get an omega driver thanks for the help
