Why are you opening by clicking hl2.exe?

You should be opening through steam shouldn't you? (I don't know if that'll make a difference might be worth a try though)

And ps. is your copy legal?

my copy IS legal, russian SoftClub lisense version.
and you know what? CS:source is running well.
HL2 - not.
I don't know how executable file named, I'm just run game through the start menu.

My friend playing HL2 with good FPS on GeForce5200 with only 128 fricking ram, BUT WHY I CAN'T?!! Another friend fell out of life two weeks ago with HL2 and GeForce5700. Yesterday he called me, and 30 minutes spoke about "this damned greatest game ever".

Damn, didnt know HL could be played on such low end machines. Personally I dont care that much about all the uber graphics, I play the game for the story and to shoot things.

Lol yes my friend is also running it on a horrible machine and it works great, my recomendation to u is start it with steam when you run it steam should tell you some information about your graphics card. For example if it will say you are running a directx 7 level graphics card and your computer is running directx 9. If it doesn't do it and your licence is legit the reason is probably that you gfx card sux, i am saying this because u can run cs source an not hl2.

Also if u launch hl2 without steam, steam will never dycrypt the files, and if it doesnt do that u cant play the game.

I had the same problem… It was due to my VIA CPU to AGP2.0/AGP3.0 Controller not working right with latest 4in1 drivers from VIA… should have bought an nforce2 board I guess. I fixed the problem by uninstalling those drivers and reinstalling earlier drivers…
