I need some help here (hl2.exe problem)

I've had the orange box for about a year now and I hadn't played any of the games off of it in MONTHS. Today i decided to get back on to play some tf2 and was greeted by an error message saying that "hl2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and all that "send microsoft error report" junk.

Things I've tried:
-Updating game: didn't work
-reinstalling entire game: didn't work
-Verify integrity of game cache: didn't work
-Defragment cache files: didn't work
-restart Steam: didn't work
-reinstalled steam: didn't work
-rebooted computer: didn't work

I need some serious help here this is starting to PISS ME OFF :flame:

This error is common to all executable files in Windows, so it may be any possible problem.
Have you installed any copy of Windows again after last time you played and it was working?

I used to get that sometimes when I pushed Half-Life 2 too hard. Could be you're running out of memory or processing power.
1) Can you please post your system specs
2) Make sure you have as little already running on your PC when you start TF2 as you can
3) Make sure all your drivers are up to date
