OK, roomate has a cheapo computer that she can't upgrade as she can't afford it. Everything is on low and it runs at 20 fps avg...but when things get dicey, it drops to 10 at the max. I was hoping there would be some console commands to put in that will make the game hidous, but playable. I found a "Tf2 tweaker" program that I can't dl as everywhere says "Account suspended", so it's probably a keylogger. Anybody have some commands that I could use?

So the res and everything is set to the lowest possible and your still only getting 20fps.

- Set all the settings in your graphics card drivers properties to "performance"
- In steam, right hand click TF2 in the games tab, properties, set launch options and add
Code:
-dxlevel 80 -heapsize <PC-RAM-in-kilobytes>

But at the end of the day there might not be anything you can do, the minimum specs required for TF2 are
Minimum: 1.7 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM, DirectX? 8 level Graphics Card, etc
If her PC is significantly below this then she is most likely out of luck.

Welcome to my world D:

****ING PSU!!! *shakes fist wildly*

Heapsize shouldn't be higher than half of your ram memory amount.

Her computer isn't so bad...

Athlon 3100+ *1.8ghz, 1gig ram, 6600GT.

Trying launch options now.

I've heard that before, but I've been setting the heapsize to my total ram amount for ages without a problem. It's not like the OS needs half the RAM to operate and I find Source doesn't use the entire heap anyway.

On the other hand, Pitz, if you do notice excessive hard drive use while playing you could reduce the heapsize to 768MB (being 75% of the systems 1GB).

I too seem to be having performance issues. My computer seems that it should be enough to at least run the game of medium-high. But, i am forced to run it on low and still only average about 50-30 fps. IE, in 2fort when on either side of the bridge if there is a lot of fighting going on it drops down to 30 fps.

Specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.4 ghz
2 GB DDR2 667
ATI 2600 XT

I know it isn't the greatest but should i be getting more? Also, in COD4 i average about 70-90 fps on medium-high settings. On my old computer i averaged 30 fps in TF2 and its specs were:

ATI Athlon XP 2200 + @ 2.4 ghz
512 MB ram
ATI X700 pro.

=/

Google "Enditall", its a program that removes all those unnessesary background processes which should help performance. Or maybe you should just get a job and buy your own computer, but thats a moral choice :)

Not entirely a moral choice but admittedly it's an option.
