I had that pop up when i was going to play half life, its just steam letting you know that there are new driver updates for your graphics card.

it happened to me too, the weird part is that I received the same message even after I downloaded the latest drivers for my video card.

I remember it happened with my Radeon9800SE the first time I ran the game, you could in theory continue anyway and it should run fine. Or simply update your drivers, have you re-installed the drivers disc?

Hmm Ive just recently updated from 4.12(or something) to 5.4 (the day before 5.5 was released!! ffs) I have a 9800 pro and have never seen that window...?

I got that earlier, found it annoying. Need an option to turn it off imo, i dont want to upgrade my drivers. im just too damn lazy.

I have got this message for the last 2 days. The only thing that changed 2 days ago was that Steam was updated. I am concluding that the Steam update consisted of adding the capability to nag me about my driver version. It's annoying because I have actually downloaded (at my own expense) nagware, and I can no longer just start HL2 and walk away because I must be at the PC to click the "Continue Anyway" button. I know what you are thinking, "why doesn't he/she just get the latest driver?" to which I answer, "my card is happy with my current driver, thank you very much".
EDIT: I just discovered that you can turn off the nagging by clicking the "Don't nag me about this anymore" checkbox.

yeah, I got it once, told it to shove off and STFU, and I have no problems with the game. Why fix what aint broke right?

. . . . Except that the latest offical drivers for my chipset came out on the 14th of last month!! so not that helpful then :upstare:

I updated to the newer NVIDIA drivers (71.89) for my 6800LE & tried HL2 . . . .

. . . Oh dear. FPS was okay until I turned on the torch were they dropped to about 4-8 FPS! That terrible. I went back to the old drivers & set things up as they was before. Oh dear :x Now my overall FPS seems piss poor. I average about 12 FPS. What's going on here then? it was fine before. Don't computers just piss you off sometimes. It took me weeks to sort out HL2 during which time I upgraded the main guts of my system to get it working properly. Now it seems I'm back to sqyare 1 again following a driver update then F'd things up. I should have just left things alone

And the moral of the story is - If you system is running peachy & your happy with it then don't f**k with it!! If new drivers come out leave them well alone! it's not worth the hassle sometimes.


LOL. I just tried running the video stress test & my average FPS came out at 19.69!! that's down a tad on what it was previously. Something has gone very wrong since attempting to upgrade those damn drivers :cheers:
