But seriously, though - very nice! Arctic/northen/whatever base at the end? Had the air of a cold place, and the helicopter in the hanger is a bit of a puzzler. Very good condition that thing, and for what reason is it there?

I know it's only concept art but that's got to have some form of importance as it's been added so strongly into the picture. I mean, being a great big eye catching helicopter which no one has heard about until now n' all. Could be wrong, mind...

Well yes, but a big chopper taking off from a few miles outside of a Combine central hub is bound to be noticed by some form of superior technology. Or hell, even the common radar, or eyes/patrol even.

Can't wait to find out what it's for, when it's used and why it's there.
 
The GMan looks sinister as hell. I love it. :D

Also, note continued lack of briefcase. We never really got an explanation for his missing it in Episode One's intro, but a bit of theorizing, just based on the feel of that image: briefcase = officialdom? He has "employers" in HL and HL2, and the briefcase... perhaps now he's become a bit more of a free agent? It certainly seems like he's taking a much more personal interest in the situation now, using Alyx (possibly) to manipulate you...

Never even seen the first Matrix all the way through, actually. Good to know there's a precedent though. :)
 
The earpiece theme is actually most apparent in Matrix Reloaded. The whole "He said you set him free" thing and the earpiece in the envelope.

Looks like the rebels found a non-Combine chopper out there.
If the greenery ends up looking even remotely like that in the 2nd piece, I'm gonna... well, I'm really not at liberty to say.

You could fly one in a Citadel that would be fun but just stay away from that stuff probably rigged to explode when broken into or whatever

Also can anyone tell me what the two shadowy figures are? Kind of look Combine but eh, the rebels don't seem to care.

I am happy with the new helicopter but I hope we won't be driving it. Any fps with plane/helicopter trip sucks.

WTF, by the headcrab remark im assuming you are referring to the title that appears under your misspelled name that shows how often you post, well if you continue to post the rank of alien thing that is listed there continues to increase, up to Strider or other thing

Right now, we're working hard on putting the final parts of Episode Two together. Early on during development we spent a lot of time working on concept art of key areas of the game, so that everyone on the team could share a vision of what the final game would look like. The three pieces below are some examples of that work. Once the game is released you'll be able to see how these concept pieces were eventually turned into the final product.

Anyway. Looks good. What is the chopper for? Transport to the artic base seems like the obvious choice but I guess we'll see. Also, on the third pic. You'd think, seeing as they could have drawn anything they liked they wouldn't have put a copy of Kleiner's notice board on the wall? I know it was there in the transmissison, but surly it was just meant as a placeholder?

It's drawn on a screenshot of the same area. They just didn't draw anything else over that board.
 
The G-Man pic almost looks like the Combine Elites are guarding the G-Man. And the Rebels don't seem to have noticed either the Elites or the G-Man. Hopefully that means that there isn't a ham-fisted spoiler right there.

The Helicopter could well be the end of episode transport method, but I'd really rather not have yet another warehouse ending.

That helicopter is a Soviet Mil Mi-8, but not a military version, a civilian one. Judging by it's state, it's been preserved by the Rebels. What for? I can only speculate, but my guess is, the Episode will end with us boarding the chopper, crashing in the arctic regions and getting hauled away by a few survivors to the base.
 
What is most interesting to me in the helicopter picture is that 1) the roof of the structure has old lattice work with a few futuristic touches. Think of the orange lines, hanging power cords and the one shot of the combine advisor escaping his pod in the most recent trailer. Same complex perhaps? Boss fight perhaps??

2) The artist of that picture took the time to paint snow accumulating on the steps from the open roof. Looks to me like they have already arrived at the 'artic base.'
