New Idea; way's to make it possible

So I got this new idea for a multiplayer map and I really need some help to make it possible.:cat:

Maybe someone allready made it I don't know but this is the general idea:

A fort, heavily fortified with turrets and npc's with rpg launchers and look out bay's
( So far I can make it all )
With zombies running from a hive to the base every 30 seconds or something, so wave after wave gets slammed on the base, breaking more and more.

Now the difficult part is to make it possible... to fix the sentry's so they only fire at zombies, fix the npc's so they stay in the base and atack the zombies.
And to have wave after wave ( and after 5 minutes even stronger wave's) of creatures slamming at the fortress doors ( they break after a certain of time )

Can someone help me?

I'm pretty sure this can be done.

Others have talked about Zombie defence maps in the past but I'm not sure if any actually made it to completion.

Do yourself a favour and work on the fundamental mechanics of the idea first before you make the fortress itself. Just test out the idea with a basic house in a field and then scale it up once you know how to get it working smoothly.

I know all the mapping basics but still I can't seem to configure creature spawn and walk time and guns to shoot only to the enemy.

Its kinda like the Starship Troopers movie with the fortified bunker, that kinda idea :rolleyes:
 
You might want to make a custom Gmod map or one for that Half-Life 2 co-op (Subsistence? one of the ones released recently on Steam) mod so you can use the custom code that lets you have multiplayer + AI in one package.

For the varied walk time this is as simple as making 2 different spawn points or locked rooms, one closer than the other, and just having them open after a different amount of time. I.e. you could have the first wave spawn inside a distant building, and then after a while have the next lot 'break through' a door out of a building much closer, just to increase the tension and make things more frantic. For this you'd just have the door as a breakable that breaks to let the Zombies out (making it look like they have just broken out suddenly).

Shoot only enemy, that's a sticky point as far as I know. I haven't dabbled with Gmod so it's probably possible via that route if you ask on these forums.
 
For the map I will use the mod SYNERGY, it includes full AI so that is no problem.:smoking:

That idea is nice, thanks for the help! I think I can make that possible...the only problem now is the turrets, how to make them shoot only zombies, I can't have my main defense blow my NPC's and players to smithereens :(

But anyway, it sounds like a pretty good idea. I could see it working, even if it's sort of a gimmick mod.
I'll have to assume it'll be multiplayer in some way?
 
Because I like apostrophes and smilies but that is not the problem here.

Yes, as I posted before, I will use SYNERGY wich is a multiplayer mod.
 
Yes, Synergy was the one I was thinking of (but couldn't remember the name).


Have you tried using the Rebel sentry guns in Half-Life Episode 2? Maybe they default to not fire at 'Rebel friendlies' and to fire at 'Rebel enemies'.

If not, looking at Synergy it looks like you have Combine versus Rebels as a game mode. If they have a team vs. team structure set up it might be possible to assign props to teams. If it's not already in place you can always suggest it to the mod makers: the normal sentry for the Combine and the salvaged sentry for the Rebels.
 
Episode 2 is not yet compatible with Synergy too bad.
And I was thinking more in the line of those gunturrets that you can place either on the ceiling or on the floor.

The OB version of Synergy is currently being worked on. The version on Steam works with vanilla Half-Life 2.
 
Exactly... But that is not the problem because the turrents from HL2: E2 is not the one I want to use.
I want to use the floor/ceiling turret, just need a way to find them to only shoot at zombies and stuff...
