Hey all...

I am strongly considering picking up HL2 with CS: Source tomorrow at my local EBgames. I do however have a few questions before I do so:

1) is it too late for me to get in on the HL2 craze? What about with CS:Source?

2) when is the expansion coming out

3) how long will this game be the "thing" in pc gaming (it's all I hear about wherever I go heh)

4) what should a new player know about downloads/updates with CS: Source...

5) anything else that you think might be helpful to me....

Thanks guys

1) Of course not! The continued popularity of this site should be enough to know the answer to that!

2) The fall (oh god US oh god)

3) HL2.. not very long ( I think its time has passed already). It'll be all about the mods and Source-based games like DoD:Source and CS:Source.

4) If you mean what new content has been added: Not much really, mostly pretty new maps and great touch ups to original maps.

5) :farmer:

Edit - How rude of me, Welcome to the forums :)

I guess you should know that HL2 requires online Steam certification to run.

But you obviously have an internet connection so that's taken care of.

Have fun man. In a way, I'm jealous. Wish I could play HL2 for the first time again.

1- The game's still going big with only a small portion of mods out so far. I think it's only a matter of time before the next CS or NS comes along.

2- The expansion should be out sometime around october or november. Somewhere before winter and after summer.

3- Most newer-gen games aren't going to be out for quite some time. Anything impressively far ahead graphics-wise won't be around 'til 2006 or 7, I think.

4- All the new software updates are sent automatically over steam. As for strategies or gameplay, I'd suggest asking around the CSS forums near the middle of the index.

5- Definitely play the first Half-Life game first, or at least read a summary. It's really useful for understanding the plot.
-Be patient while playing and look around a lot. Too many people have breezed through the first time and gotten confused.
-The HL2 multiplayer is quite fun.
-Make sure you have an internet connection! :P

Get it. The mods are reason enough. I can't think of any game series with more user-created mods. Why? Because once you have a basic understanding of the hammer editor, and coding, you can build an effective mod. Of course, more team members, and modelers are needed to make a better mod, but the fact is as such. Its the best game for its money. 50 dollars gets you 2 games, access to more mods than you have fingers and toes, you have a friendly community of gamers. THrow in one advantage of source. It can run on a Geforce 2 MX440 if you have 512 mb of ram. Seriously. I was able to. Simply put, your computer will probably run it at great settings as long as you have a 9250 or better.

Oh, when you're playing, make a point to ENJOY the physics. I wish I had known that my first time through.

When I played through my second time, I did my best to use the physics to their full pottential. That is, rather than just blowing up that barrel, making an intricate patter of boxes to rebound it and such so that you pick it up, throw it at them, and then it bounces to a combine, where you then blast it.

Or for instance, say you're upstairs in a building and combine raid it. Instead of just jumping out the window, grab everything you can and block the stairwell off, thus creating effective cover and destraction. Maybe toss a grenade into it too, just to dissorient their attack.

You have to WANT to have fun with this game if you want to have a good time. After going through the first level a second time, rather than going "Nice!", I had a feeling of "WOW! THIS GAME IS AMAZING!".

Really? I did all that the first time. :p
Me too. The only thing I did not do is touching myself while looking at Alyx

Anyway, buy the game, enjoy the SP and MP, play some CS: Src and wait for the mods to come :)

Damn all us people from differen't countrys with our differen't terms for differen't seasons, we are all too differen't.
