New RO: O screens

I really can't wait :)

IIRC, the guys also have the UE3 engine license, correct? So in the future we can see this game on UE3.

Obviously the guys need a full time, doing things full time for a few years, and so they need extra cash (which they can do by selling the UE2.5 version... which will be awesome and probably sell good with those with Steam accounts)

Yep :)

And apparently they are planning on making an "ambitious single player game" with it. Whatever that means :P

They use Speedtree in this game or ?

Don't believe so, and I don't see a need for it really... It doesn't need all the extra stuff that Speed Tree has because you usually don't fight in forests or anything :P It's mostly blown up forests.

i will definitely be getting this game...i just wish they'd release some price info on it and such...maybe a release date even tho i know delays may curse any release date given :(

I know that the retail (box) release is $30.00, not sure what Steam will cost.

In the latest Steam update -

"The preload for Red Orchestra, is also right around the corner."

Soon then!

The official release for the Box version is "March". Which may mean we will see a Steam release before then.

Thankfully February is a short month :D

looks very promising... i never played the original though

To be honest I wasn't all that impressed with the original RO and I'm not exactly hyped about a mod team building an entire stand-alone package that didn't impress me in the first place.

They are kinda late jumping on the WWII game fad too.

I guess if 2003 (original mod release) was late, then yes.

Anyway, no one has done this aspect of WWII before.

What version did you play.

I hope they remove the weapon sway from this version. I know it's realistic, but RO is 10x less fun with it included. It makes the game more about luck than skill.

I could be proned somewhere, then see some german running with his back to me, I'll end up taking 2 shots and missing them both because of the weapon sway, then the guy turns around and kills me with his spray gun, or with the first shot of his KAR. It's infuriating to the point of quitting the game, which is why I barely play it nowadays.

Don't remember specifically but it was about a couple of months ago (whatever the newest version was available then), I just couldn't get into it. :|

I played the version that came with ut2k4 editors choice thingo, version 3.0 and I didn't like it.

hmm...i will probably be getting retail since i don't have a credit card for the Steam release.
$30 bucks for RO sounds like a good deal

I don't know where you live, but here, its 2006. I'm pretty sure it's the same all over the world.

And how many times havent we heard "no one has done this aspect of WWII before."? Way too many times.

Actually it hasn't been done before. This is the Eastern front, and it's a realism game. Not some craptard DoD fragfest.

And what does it matter if it's set in WWII or not. It's just a setting, so if the games are different gameplay-wise then it doesn't matter.

And MiccyNarc is saying that it was first released in 2003, therefore it's not too late for the "WWII fad".

Whats different about the Eastern front? It's basically just another location where you do the things you do in any other ww2 game/mod.

What does that have to do with anything? Doesnt matter when they released their first version. A craze can only last for so long. WW2 was going strong in 2003, but it kinda died down now since all the good ideas and features has been used.

I can't remember the quote exactly, but Tim Schafer once said something very true. He said it's very easy to be original and unique in the industry today since we get bombarded with sequals and so on that doesnt bring anything new to the table. It's enough to say "Hey! Instead of doing a ww2 game about the westfront, lets do a game about the eastfront! Hell yeah!" to be original. Which is kinda sad. And I'm sorry, "realism" doesnt cut it. I wonder how many mods use that in their description (and reply "But this is really realistic!" when asked about it).

That's like asking the difference between WWII and modern times.
Completely different weapons, completely different equipment, etc.

Learn to read.

Not only is it on the East Front, but it's also the most realistic shooter out there.

The only mod I've seen use that is INS mod.
The game IS realistic.

Sadly some people think CS:S is realistic, but hey, to each his own.
