I would like to buy a new set up for bf2 and would like your imput for better deals/ or ideas and configs.

I am going to use my current graphics card which I just bought. X800 All-in-wonder. It however is AGP so thats why I want an AGP motherboard over a PCI-E. I would like a quiet case, but I mean obviously the performance is more important than the noise level. (Not planning on Overclocking.)

CPU- AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3700BNBOX - Retail $210.00 http://www.chiefvalue.com/app/productdetails.asp?submit=&item=19-103-539&ATT=Processors

HSF- Thermalright XP-120 CPU Cooler $71.86 with fan and artic silver http://www.xoxide.com/thermalright-xp-120-cpu-cooler.html

Total 1143.27
And then my components from this computer would be the X800 all in wonder,
seagate barracuda 7200.7 and LiteOn DVD Burner.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Looks pretty good- the thing with bf2 is it is a RAM hog- i have a mate with only a x700 but has 2 gigs of ram and a half decent processor and he can run it perfectly. Me on the other hand, I have to turn settings down to run it adequately because i only have 1 gig.

He has 2GB's of RAM. More than enough.
Everything sounds alright and it'll run BF2 like a dream.
Personally i wouldn't get the 64-bit version of Windows XP. But thats up to you. :)

well i dont want to have to get the 64 bit if i dont have to because a new OS is extra money. Will reg XP work with that processor?

XP will work fine on your processor..

man, I wish I had enough money to blow on a box like that so I could make a bragging thread :(

if you're not planning on overclocking why are you getting the thermalright heatsink? just use the one that comes with the cpu ..you'd save $70 plus you dont need the thermal paste ..oh you could probably save some cash if you got another sound card

personally I'd get a cheaper psu and use some of that cash and the cash saved on other items to get a better mobo and maybe even trade in/sell your video card for a pci-e version ..but that's just me

I have almost your exact setup (X800 XT PE, 2 gigs RAM, AMD Athlon 64 3400+, yadda yadda yadda) and it runs quite well. I play with everything on full ('cept for 2x AA) and it runs great. I'd recommend an Ultra PSU, though: I got my 500 watt for 80 bucks, and it's really excellent.

Too bad about the AGP ....

QFT. With simply the AGP motherboard, the system is already out of date.

suggestions like yours are why i made the thread. yeah i will just use the stock fan now that i think about it. Also what sound cards would you reccomend as i understand many have issues with bf2 (like my current audigy 2 value). And where could i trade in my card for a pci-e. I know ATI has some kind of trade in program is that what your talking about? Thanks for your help.

My Audigy 4 sounds awesome on BF2. Pretty cheap card too and it can do all the EAX features and play the sound on high quality. plus you get a sticker! :D

And yes, windows XP will run fine.

no, the ati trade up is crap they give you $50 for your old card

I'd sell it online and use the cash to get a pci-e card ..that's how I sold my parts to help pay for my new stuff

oh and I have the amd 3700, the stock heatsink is good enough, you dont need thermal paste cuz it comes with a thermal pad already on

as for a psu I'd recommed the enermax 565P-VE ..it's 535W and is sli ready and nvidia certified to run in sli ..and it's cheaper than most sli-ready psu and is extremely reliable

Yeah the stock heatsink works fine with the 3700+ as long as you dont do any huge overclock.
