Update: There is now a third trailer up and it shows off a little bit of ONS-Torlan 2 and the new Paladin. They say the map is extremely unpolished but it still looks very nice and the Paladin looks awesome as does its shield.

Get it here

Holy shit @ shield !!!

Raxxman, they've said a 6800Ultra can run the UT2k7 on high settings without problems iirc.:)

I don't really doubt one 6800Ultra can't handle the next gen games without too much loss in game experience on medium/high settings. But do anyone think one single 7900Ultra, 2GB DDR2 and some AMD 3800+ could run Crysis aswell as a X800, 1GB DDR and AMD 3200+ can run Far Cry on highest details without AA?
I am defenently going to sacrifice some money for a new PC to be able to experience Crysis, UT2K7 and other great games, but for now im just trying to get an idea of what these games might and possibly will require :)

if you look at the top right hand side of the screen in the videos I think you see the frame rate

considering that the game featured no opponents and limited weapon effects I'm a little worried the frame rate was dropping to low 30s at times. If that's the case, whatever they were using is not going to be powerful enought to play smooth games during frantic mp action.

course it might not be frame rate, so if anyone else knows what it is, I'd love to hear them.

Actually you can see framedrops while he loads 3 rockets in the RL in the second clip and the game kind of freezes or lags when he shot them. I remember this happening in UT2K3 with my Geforce 2 MX440 =D

Garfield, if you're considering upgrade, wait for either the first DX10 GPUs or wait for Crysis to release.. I mean, enjoying it maxed in DX9 probably won't be nothing to compare with enjoying it maxed in DX10(They've stated it looks a generation ahead of the DX9 render iirc)!:O

Yes I know, im not going to buy a new PC this year, or atleast not until Crysis is released, but Im trying to figure out how much cash I need to save.

Depends on if you want a top-end comp or a high-end comp, also depends on the competetiveness then(I.e. pricewars).
I myself am planning on buying a new comp most likely when Vista comes, I'm aiming to be save up and spend approx 15000 SEK, but all my savings include xmas cash, barnbidrag(Iirc you're Swedish?) etc.
I'm either gonna spend that on a new comp or a high-end digital camera.
The price also depends on if you plan on building it yourself or not, I myself am probably gonna try building it myself for the first time.(My current comp is 3 years old :p)

Going to use some of my current parts such as harddrive and stuff like that, I am only planning on a new cpu, graphics and ram, a new mobo will most likely be needed to. Im currently playing games on my x800xl, 1gb ddr and amd 3200+
I get decent FPS (30-50fps) in everygame with high details and 2x AA. My main concern is the graphics, will one GF 7900GTX be enough to get good fps in games like Crysis?

From what we've heard, yes, but the 7xxx series ain't DX10.. the 8xxx series are rumoured to support DX10 and are rumoured to be released in June/July, but it's better to wait for the higher-end stuff that'll come out when Crysis comes out..
I'm also not sure how big a worry HDCP, High-Bandwidth Digital Copy Protection, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDCP will be to people who want to use Vista/DX10.. I remember it having some importance to gaming on Vista but mainly it was important for playing Blu-Ray/HD-DVD on Vista..

Not alot of COMPUTER monitors are HDCP compliant these days.. Heck, many AMERICAN HDTVs from pre-2004/2005 aren't HDCP compliant..:)

Hmm atleast I hope one 8xxx series Geforce card will be enough for Crysis. I don't want to spend $1000 on a graphics card.

the 7xxx series will definitely be enough for Crysis, but they will not be able to run the DX10 version only the currently shown DX9 vers, i.e. you won't be able to enjoy the really maxed graphics, but only the DX9 render which still looks beautiful(All the current shown media has been DX9).. And with DX10 around the corner(Less than a year away) I think it's pretty useless to buy a DX9 card right now..

All depends on money does'nt it? I am for sure going to buy atleast one 7900GTX for Crysis, all depends on their price in dec/jan this year. The first DX10 cards will be very expensive, so I don't think I'll have one of those, incase i don't win on the lottery ofcourse.

thing is, its all well and good speculating, but its best to just wait and save n see, then buy the best you can get with what you saved at the time you want to.

:P

Garfield: Don't forget that you will also have to buy Windows Vista along with your upgraded parts if you want to run DX10.

DX10 is actually already being used in Vista (just that it's running in Software mode since no card supports DX10 yet)

I play games like CS:S on my Vista comp and I get about equal performance as my XP machine :)

SO yeah I highly suggest that you don't upgrade until the DX10 card are out.

Oh, and for your CPU, make sure you go 64-bit (so yes you will need a new mobo)... It's really the only option I recommend to people if they are planning on upgrading as 32-bit will soon be obselote in the next year or two.

Vista is'nt released yet is it?

Yes but I am part of the Vista beta program, so I'm using a legal copy.

Oh, and I highly suggest that you don't download any warezed copies of Vista, because Microsoft is really starting to crack down on these things. Basically it's along the lines of Microsoft is actively searching for anyone who leaks this, and I'm really not sure what sort of action they will be taking (besides obviously the testers who leak them will be permanently removed from the program and banned from Microsoft testing program for life), but I suggest being careful if you choose to go this route, which I don't recommend in any way.

Vista comes out early 2007 btw.

If I might add, I must say that build 5365 is the BEST Vista build I've had the liberty to test :) Perofrms great, no showstoppers for me, and it overall is really shaping up to a complete operating system that is usable on a day-to-day basis.

In fact I'm considering that probably sometime within the Beta 2 cycle that I might switch over completely. That is once a few of my favorite applications get compatible and such (Daemon Tools didn't work so I couldn't load up my copy of Visual Studio, which I downloaded from MSDN... I have to burn it to DVD which is a waste of a disc *sigh*)

One thing I'm curious about, is that does UT2007 have a DX10 portion to the engine, or is it all DX9? I'm going to guess that it's all DX9 because I haven't heard anything about DX10 paths. Hopefully they are working on a port, or at least working to support it in the following game (UT2k8 or 2k9?) so that you get all the lovely performance boosts (as much as 30-40% in some games) that Vista gives you.

A Vista computer with a DX10 card, it can run games like Half-Life2, Crysis and UT2K7, DX10 it's backward compatible with DX9 is'nt it?

Yes DX10 will be backwards compatible, but due to how vastly rewritten it is it only emulates the previous DXs iirc, however, despite what many(including myself) started to panic about, MS has stated the highest performance losses they've seen is about 5% iirc, that's not alot, atleast not if you have like a 60 FPS.:p

Yes in some games there is a very small performance hit... But if you can run in Aero Glass mode, that really shouldn't be too much of a problem (considering you need a mid to high end comp to get Aero Glass in the first place)...

PCMagazine has reported that in some cases though there is a 30-40% increase in games...

I know that what I'm about to say is somewhat scary, and I'll probably get hated for it... But you guys need to trust the Microsoft Gaming Division (DirectX team and all those people)... These guys are gamers and are making sure that when you emulate OpenGL games (I haven't tested one out yet actually, so I might have to install one like Doom3 to test), which was a recent freak-out, that they will run with little performance hit... Once people reconfigure their API's to sort of go towards the Windows Vista approach and optimize for it, then there will be performance gains.

I wish Microsoft would give us DirectX10 cards to test out once they are finished being created.

(btw, this post was made on Vista :) )
