Newbie question

I have loaded Half Life 2 on my computer as a surprise gift for my son for christmas, everything seems to work properly as I have started the game and played for maybe five minutes. Up to that point the Mouse1 and Mouse2 buttons don't seem to do anything ( not even punch) is that because there are no weapons available that early, if so how and when do you aquire them?

No worries.

When you first start out, you dont have any weapons, and unfortunately you can't punch (although that would make deathmatch a lot more fun).

It won't be long till you pick up the crow-bar, and shortly after the 9mm and sub-machine gun.

yeah, youll be moving slow as well because you pick up an HEV (hazardous environment) suit later that allows you to move faster and sprint as well as a few other things. also, good job on the gift. you picked up the best present possible for your son, he'll love it.

when I first played the game through, I noticed none of the slowdowns I was getting. People are alwayse complaining about low fps. Just turn off the cl_showfps and you won't know that your dropping till you hit 10 and under. I know I didn't. I got too engrossed in the game. Hella fun.
This comming from a guy with the following specs

HP pavilion:
p4 2.53 ghz
512 of PC2100 ram
Radeon 9800 pro 128mb

I swear, I did not notice any slowdowns during my marathon gaming sessions.

Can't wait till my new build is done though. This game's gonna scream.
