I'm surprised there is no thread for this.

Nine Inch Nails released a new album and you can either pay for it or download it for free from their homepage.

the $300 dollar version is sold out, but the free version of the album in high quality DRM free MP3 is still available.

I am almost finished downloading it, but I heard it was good.

I haven't gotten around to given it a full in-depth listen, but from the few on-the-fly listens theres some real gems in there. The first track is beautiful.

Probably check your forum display option, it might be set to show only threads active in the last 30 days instead of forever.

I downloaded the entire album after being in total awe of the first section. I'm a fan of instrumental, and this is some of the best music I've heard in years. It's truly inspiring, so much so it got me drawing again. Also works very well for background music when playing TF2 as no vocals means no distractions.

I hope Trent Reznor continues releasing albums without record company involvement. It's a huge step forward in the music industry.

I didn't really care for it. At all. The first track had my interest, but I thought Ghosts I was disappointing. It sounds like just some stuff they were working on, and just kinda finalized it so it seemed finished. And well, it's just not NIN without Trent. It's a lot like a rough draft - stuff that I could do. The piano stuff is very nice, but not especially skillful. The guitars weren't really there for the most part, and I don't know.. left a lot to be desired.

Regardless, I'm a fan of NIN, and I love what they are doing, and feel like sending them some money just to commend them for how they are approaching the piracy situation, and hey, 36 lossless tracks for as little as $5? You are an asshole if you steal from that kind of generosity.

What is especially cool about it is that they are allowing people to use the Ghosts music in their own videos, slideshows - whatever.

BTW I thought the year zero album kicked ass though.

Not NIN without Trent?

NIN IS Trent. :P NIN albums usually have a completely different sound from the last, this is no different.

I don't like NIN but I stopped reading right about here.

I don't like NIN

Well, I like my music a hell of a lot more than this album. If you haven't heard [Ghosts], then how can you even compare?

That was really low.

Listen to my latest two tracks:

Ghost Angel (tentatively named for the way it sounds, before I heard of this NIN album)

Past

You can here them and some of the other tracks I'm working on here:

I have heard some of [Ghosts], but that has absolutely nothing to do with it.

My point was that you just look like an ass when you look at a famous musician's work and say "I could do that."

Yarr, I know. I was kinda asking him to see if he actually could have made Ghost 1 himself.

you dont have to know what 3/4 time is to make a song in 3/4 time. kids make up things all the time with out knowing what their doing, and i'd imagine that some of it would be quite musically mind blowing had it not been made with sticks stones and empty bottles.

Yup... This is correct.

It sounds like you are saying a person has to be like a brand name before they can be approved.

It's the same type of people that only like music if it's popular. Or someone that would spend $6000 on a shirt that costs $20 to make, because it is a famous designer label. So what if a designer made it, does that in itself make it good? An amateur designer might make one that I like better and sell it for $20.

Every musician started as an amateur.

So what does fame have to do with the quality of the album. I'm not saying I'm a better musician than Trent, I'm just saying that the songs on Ghosts [1] sound rushed, unfinished, not to my taste, and generally uninspired and I don't like them.

I'm not a huge fan of NIN because his songs are usually far from my taste in music, but I think he is one of the most talented, and one of my favorite singers who ever lived. I just wish he had a different style of music to sing over. And without him singing on Ghosts, there is nothing for me to like.

I love their last album, some of it was fantastic, and I just expected Ghosts to be better than it is.

I don't know why I even bothered writing this, I guess because I'm just insulted. You hadn't even listened to my music or his album Ghosts, yet you completely blew me off like I haven't made hundreds of songs, like nothing I ever done could be better than any of another musicians work.

The disrespect only makes me work harder and make better music, so thanks my friend. As an amateur, I still have a lot to prove. I plan to use music I make in the games I make.

I think you were being an ass [to me]. No big deal, I'm over it.
