No reload sound on 9mm pistol in Half Life 2.

Hi,

I downloaded Orange Box off Steam and all is fine, except the sound for the 9mm handgun has a missing sound when I reload on Half Life 2.

The sound is there when taking the old clip out but when putting in the new clip there is no sound.

I checked for updates and as far as I can tell it is fully updated. (set on automatically update)

Also checked cache integrity and that went ok.

Anyone else have this problem?

Any tips would be appreciated.

Ehh, if it's so big problem you can re-install the game or check the sound files for the obvious missing sound.

Can't find any sound folder within "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\xxx\half-life 2\hl2

I downloaded a custom reload sound but don't know where to put it.

Is re-installing the only option? Hate to download it again but if that's the only choice then I may do that.

On Google I can see that this was a problem when HL2 was first released, so I take it it should be fixed now? I mean noone else has this problem?

It was never there. They added clip sound in Episode One (or Episode Two, I don't know).

Also, I started Half Life 2 Episode 2 and the reload sound in that is 100% fine, so it is Half Life 2 only that is the problem.

So it's like that for all copies of Half Life 2 on the PC?

If I download a .wav file for a reload sound is there anyway to add it to Half Life 2?

There was no reload sound AT ALL for the pistol in HL2. There isn't a problem with your game; as Barnz says, it just isn't there.

Also, the files are in files called .GCF files. That's the format Valve uses.

Just to answer your question about how to replace the sound...

To add a new reload sound, find an appropriate .wav file and place it in the following directory. It must be named "pistol_reload1.wav" for the game to recognize it.

\Steam\SteamApps\yourusername\half-life 2\hl2\sound\weapons\pistol\

And the equivalent directory for episode two is:

\Steam\SteamApps\yourusername\half-life 2 episode two\ep2\sound\weapons\pistol
