no sound in all hl2 based games!!!!!

hy guys , i got a new pc on christmas and i had to reinstall steam. when i reinstalled hl2 again it had no ****ing sound. i reinstalled it and it still has no sound. wtf is up there , all hl1 games have sound!!!! how can i fix this, i thought about if its because of the new 64bit-patch cos i got an athlon64 3500+ ! please help -

Try typing in this command into the game console:

volume 1

If that doesn't work, try:

snd_restart

Go to Options>Keyboard>Advanced to turn on the console, then you can press the ~ key (above Tab) to open the console where you can put in some commands and stuff.

Just put the "-console" parameter in front of your shortcut target.

Ex. "C:\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 220 -console

Perhaps you should try deleting your configuration file - maybe HL2 configured specificaly to your previous sound hardware?

It's in STEAM\SteamApps\your_user_nam\half-life 2\hl2\cfg

You'll have to configure the game from scratch. So if you don't want to lose your settings, just rename 'config.cfg' to something else, like 'oldconfig.cfg'.

I think snd_restart does that, it looks up your hardware

But if my idea doesn't work you can try Przemeks

that 1 with the console doesnt work , oddly there was a message on the bottom of the console telling me this :
--- Missing Vgui material vgui/servers/icon_secure_deny

maybe thats the problem.

Nah, that's a bug that has been there since the first version

Try verifying your game cache files (in Properties of HL2 in My Games). It will take a while, so read a newspaper or something

ok guys sry , i found out the problem and fixed it. the sounds doesnt work when i use 4 speakers . i just had to use something else then 4 speakers !!!!
but anyway thx for ur support.
