Norton Internet Security 2007 Woes

The unfortunate truth is that I recently updated my Norton Account. For some bizarre reason after upgrading I was able to play Insurgency yesterday, but now half of the games on my Steam account, including Insurgency, cannot be accesssed because Norton is perceiving it as a Trojan. I've checked the Firewall setting for the steam.exe, (all ports are open), and I had tried all the .exe such as HL, HL: Source and HL2, all work, but programs such as 3rd party mods and SDK base are not working.

Is there a reason for this?

what level of security is your norton set on. is it high low medium?

Does it have it on Norton 2007, I'm having problems trying to find it.

im not ssure but if you do find it on there then try to change it to either low or medium becuz if its on the highest setting, norton may not allow your games to process properly. In other words it will block you from opening it or playing it

Your problem is Norton. Don't use it. It's like complaining that the cheap and nasty stereo that came with your 20 year old car won't play cd's, doesn't get many radio stations, and sounds like ass. Move on from that crap, or at least don't complain about it.

I use Zonealarm for firewalls, myself. Norton started causing more trouble then it was preventing after a while...

just close the damn program my god whats so hard about that? isnt there an allow it to run button somewhere like there is in the windows "security"? 2 of my friends have the same problem as you just close it.

They both suck...

Use a lightweight free antivirus like AVG or Avast. Or NOD32 if you want to pay for one. As for as firewalls go, just use the default firewall in XP/Vista.

Wow, none of these replies have been helpful at all. Myself and all other Norton/Symantec users are having this problem. There's a huge thread over on the Steam forums about it.

Not sure if the problem resides with Norton or Steam. To get around it, just disable Norton's "autoprotect" feature (mine has an option to disable it for fifteen minutes), then start your game. I'm hoping a fix will be out in a few days.

I've found a Temporary problem solver:

1- Deactivate Auto-protect for any amount of time
2- Open gaming application
3- Ctrl-Alt-Delete
4- Select Norton and turn auto-protect on
5- Click on minimized game tab from your toolbar
6- Happy playing

These are the set of things that I would do because Norton 2005 was being funny with Generals, so I'm using the same process for Steam. I had no problems with Norton 2006 for anything game or multiplayer related.

I wouldn't be so paranoid of deactivating auto-protect if it wasn't for someone trying to portscan my computer everytime I'm using it.

It's a Norton problem obviously. I run Pc-Cillin and have no issues and just have to allow and update exe's in the exception list every once in awhile.

Let me clarify that Norton sucks, and is a piece of crap that is ALWAYS causing conflict with at least one program. Today it happens to be Steam. Come back to us when you finally come to realise that Norton doesn't really do the job it is even made for particularly well, causes problems with OTHER programs, and quite frankly is not worth the trouble.

Of course they have finally fixed it. Now you can just sit back and wait for the NEXT problem Norton will cause.

Look. Trying to get Norton to "work" is pushing sh!t uphill. It is NOT a good anti-virus / firewall program anyway, it is bloatware, it cost money to keep up-to-date, and it causes conflicts with almost every piece of software it comes into contact with. If, after knowing all of that, someone is STILL retarded enough to want to continue using it, then they pretty much deserve the ensuing PC problems.
