Commentary mode is definitely one of my favorite parts of the half life series. Having that feeling of being an insider into the development process is definitely a thrill. Thats why I was disappointed with the number of commentary balloons in episode 2. There seemed like many more in episode 1, and they had so much time to work on the game. For future reference, please double the number of commentaries, and maybe throw in a few of the directed commentaries (where it changes your point of view to show you something). I'd say seeing the commentary is at least of equal fun as playing the game itself.

Well, it probaby whould get very repeating to hear, how they put textures on a rock, and then later a tree, next the sand etc etc. My favorite thou are the gameplay comments, and i found Merle Dandridge's comments pretty intressting.

Yeah, more voice actor commentary please.

Yep, I found Merle Dandridge's among the best. I'm glad they gave her the honor of having the final commentary.

Actually, there are in the range of 250 commentaries, they just must be hard to find.

The gameplay commentaries were definitely my favorite as well. They could put in 100 more of those and I wouldn't be tired of them.

You can get them all in the GCF files. I might have a look at them all since im not sure if all of them were put in. Wouldnt be suprised if they were all in there though since there are about 3-15 comment nodes after each loading screen.

What I hate about commentry mode is the other players (Kliener, Alyx, Magnusson) all talk whilst I'm listening to the commentry. Annoying! :(

I laughed so hard when i heard the one about the Zombie tossing back the granade, i actually did that, only to miss, run and pick it up and toss it in, and out came a buring zombie. So when they said he did threw them back out, I retried. AND HE DOES!

Yeah, i did as well. I thought they removed the zombie though. Boy was i surprised. (even though i played through that bit before)

I'm rather disappointed that we never hear commentary from Gordon Freeman's voice actor.

That's the only complaint I have about commentary. They should pause and mute all other things that are going on in the game. I had a lot of trouble with this in the Citadel during Episode One.

I know, I meant in-game.

We do, he sounds exactly like in game.
The commentary is great. I pondered myself over having more, maybe the option to select between different sets of them so that it didn't get too cluttered but I guess in the end you should always leave the audience wanting more. Then you have material for the next release!
I was careful to go through checking for nodes but I still can't escape the thought that I somehow missed some. For one thing Gabe says that some of them take control of your view, but I only recall a couple of these. And none in Portal...
Showing things like the different animations and the the pathing maps on the floor was ace. I guess they could have showed us bits like the Sniper support from Alyx actually being a 'friendly Combine' and such.
Anyway it's all great stuff.

That effect it reused later too.

At the top of silo 2 with the mounted gun shooting when you head right theres a open room with a blast door open a crack, go ahead a throw a nade it.

I got tired of listening to the Voice Actor for Alyx, Hell I was tired of that from the GLaDOS voice actor in Portal. I wanted to hear more from the design and mapping view point really, but I map as a hobby so..

Are you any good? (mapping)

Not really, I made a dozen or so maps for DoD:S (yes some crap orange maps too), but single players maps require scripting which I'm not good at right now. I really like the commentary around the Inn as they talk about how they scripted that fight and I look forward to peeking at the area for help later. I have a wet dream about a map like the final battle of endless strider waves with hunter escorts and combine grunts vs me and my rebel friend run from house to exploding house. That would be fun.
