nothing new,... just need help

hours and hours and still stuck....

I'm in the water hazard level, having just done the use the washing machine for counterweight jump over the ramp potion and then turning to the right to enter the large culvert where some nice lady greets me and opens a metal gate for me. Inside this small area is one other man on an overpass and towards the rear of the area is a rather large alien holding what appears to be some sort of large gun or cannon. There is also another metal gate preventing me from moving on. Now I have tried to talk to all the characters in this room and have also tried to turn the wheel which obviously must open the metal gate but nothing seems to work.

I hate to ask for help but I am really running out of ideas.

Anyone? Please?

Sounds like a strange case of a script not starting. One of the men should invite you into the building, show you something, and while you're in, the alien should attach the cannon to your boat. I assume no one tells you to follow him? Try reloading an earlier save maybe.

For me, towards the end of the game, one script failed, I fixed it by entering restart in the console and replaying the last part.

Thanks Solver, you were right. Just a script problem , so I typed "restart" in the console and everything was right as rain.
You've helped me out of a jam that could've gone on for quite awhile. Thanks again. Now back to the game...
