I had 9800 pro 128 but i sold it and bought 6800 GT 256m to enjoy doom 3 where i'm gettin 50 fps on 1280 x 1024 2xaa/4af high quality
but i know that valve for some reason doesn't like nvidia boards
i'm just curious is it possible that my 9800 pro 128m will be faster then 6800 GT 256 in HL2?
I don't care nvidia or ati as long as i have perfomance

I seriously doubt that the 9800 will beat the 6800 (especially on the higher settings), but the X800 will most certainly beat the 6800 but now we have to wait and see how badly it beats it.

The only time you would see ANY difference AT ALL is if you pump up to 1600*1200 and turn FSAA and AF on. Then the X800 outperforms the 6800 by just a few frames a second, while both of them easily maintain above 60 fps. Use the search feature to find the thread with the CS:S benchmark.

That's for CS:S Dust which is really low tech; HL2 is still up for grabs and largly unknow.

I got cs-cz (original cd and key), didn't install back after format and put 6800 gt, can i download cs:source to test?

The only truly accurate way to see which brand/line of cards is faster, is by waiting for the official release of the game, and THEN running the tests.

Thats true. I mean I have 2 comps. 1 has X800 other has 6800 and while playing doom3 i dont really get and boost from the 6800 so anything can happen really.

The Radeon 9800 Pro will not do better than a 6800 Gt. I have a 6800 GT and everything runs wonderfully, with great IQ. In CS: Source, I run 1280X960, 4X AA and 8X AF, everything on high and it never goes below 50 (and that is extremely rare) and goes as high as 120. Average is about 85-90. It's really great. And that's with a slightly overclocked Athlon 3200 Barton! I'm sure some of you guys with an Athlon64 processor can do a bit better.

The latest generation of cards, both the X800 Pro and the 6800 GT, run the game very similarly. Nvidia, as well as ATI, run Source perfectly well. Enjoy your 6800 GT :).

EDIT: Actually, after looking at the Driverheaven benchmarks, it does look like ATI did a lot better than Nvidia in the latest gen products. Still, I'd expect the 6800GT to do better than a 9800 Pro.

There wont be a winner, the X800 XT and 6800 / GT / Ultra will all have very similar performance in any game. And the GeForce 4, and GeForce FX should be better then what you guys think it would be.

I have seen a video of a guy playing CS:S with a 1.5 GHz CPU, GF4 MX440 and 512MB of RAM. Still very smooth and detail is pretty good.

HL2 only has a problem with the Geforce FX line of cards. This is fixed by running the game in directx 8 mode (no bump mapping, a lot of the effects are scaled down). The 6800 should have no trouble comparing to any ATi card in HL2 because it is a good dx9 card, unlike the FX series. Ask me how I know.

got them both soon

I will benchmark halflife2 on both my systems when my updates are complete. My big system has a GF6800 Ultra with A AMD 3200+ cpu and 2 kingston 512mb 400mhz memory strips. And my mini ATX is allmost the same except it has a ATI X800 XT card and the memory is a bit cheaper but still a gig.

So i will see the difference between those two brands.
