Could somebody please help me with this strange glitch? After reaching "Entaglement" these little white squares with X's in them began to appear on certain objects such as boxes and first aid stations. Its pretty distracting becasue the squares are all over the screen, and appear through walls as well.

I don't know what it is that you're seeing. take SS and post the link here.

Here are some screenshots, I hope they can help.

woah that is odd o.0
although I have heard about it before - step one is always to verify your files, so in the steam games menu, right click on hl2, go to properties and select verify game files/cache or something like that, then let it get to work
Btw you should know that F5 allows you to take full quality screenshots ingame and using www.tinypic.com is better for hosting

Thanks for the tip about the screenshots, but unfortunately verifying my files with didn't help, no problems turned up and the mystery squares are still there.

then it can only be a directx anomaly
what is your graphics card out of interest and what level of directx are you running it at?
you can change the level in the steam games menu go to properties and open the console and type in -dxlevel 90 to get DirectX v9.0 running. Alternatively if its vs 8 or 8.1 replace as appropriate
edit - the above will fix the problem if it is a legal copy, if not well it's at least worth a try

I'm running it on my laptop, and I've got a 256meg radeon mobile card running directx 9c.
There is on thing I neglected to include in my problem though. There is a slight chance that my copy of the game came from a torrent site. I don't know if that can shed some more light on the situation, or if it makes you less inclined to help.

then you more than likely got all the errors and problems associated with the cracked version of the game - even if I wanted to there is no troubleshooting the cracked version, tbh I'm surprised you got that far in the game with it
buy the game

Wow! John is that what it is? Cuz I have never seen anything like it, that was some weird SS there.

Good Job John.

Sorry we don't help thieves.

I know this probably doesn't help my situation, but for what its worth, I didn't steal the game. My computer is second hand, and when I got it it hadn't been formatted. Several games were already on it including Half-Life 2, that's why I said there was a chance that it was from a torrent site. I guess I'll just live with the glitch.

Don't live with the glitch, mrmclaughlin. Buy the game, it's really worth the money. Or at least, if you like it and somehow manage to fix the problem you have, buy HL2: Episode One, it's standalone so you don't need original HL2 files to play. And believe me, when you finish HL2 you will desperately want to know what happens next ;)
Playing with dxlevel at the console should help you, though. If not, buy the game ;)
