Offline play

Ok i just wanna play the single player but steam keeps poping up saying i gotta log in and bunch BS. Im thinking this is outrageous i have to go online to play offline. But anywas Then its wants to update HL2 i dont even want it i just wanna play the single player im not about to wait 8 hours +. Is there anyway to bypass this or am i doing something wrong?

Right click on HL2 in steam >>> Properties >> Where it says "Always keep this game up to date" switch it to "Do not automatically update this game".



I'm not sure about a few other steps after that, though.

sometimes offline works, sometimes it doesnt, just have to get it working somehow

if u have an internet cable hooked up to ur computer it wont allow u to go into offline mode intil u connect to steam but if there is no cable hooked up u should be able to just go in offline mode no hassle

Yeah if i go in offline mode it says "game is not ready for offline" and i turned the off the auto update and it still wants to update it.

Say, what's "Delete local content" do?



Does it delete all of your updates etc that you've downloaded? I have no clue what it does, but you might want to try it.


The worst that could happen is you just re-installing HL-2, which would probably fix your offline thing, anyway. (Because you've only downloaded a portion of the update "patch" thing and it wants to finish but you're not letting it, and when you reinstall.. yeah. )

You probably need to download some updates, it's worth it. Less loading times and the soldiers will use grenades more.

to play offline you literally need to be offline. either disconect the physical connection or disable the adapter from network connections. also make sure you have steam set to remember your password.

I have always played online. Once the BS of decrypting and all that was finished I never let "Steam" go online. I thas never been updated, I have installed and played a few mods but NEVER let "Steam" connect. make sure your computer's offline and then it should give you the option of "starting in offline mode"...and away you go.

Brother. I have the same problem. It says that half life needs to update. Under properties it says it is 99% updated but it won't finish up. That's after I uninstalled it, then installed it again.

Why won't it complete the the upgrade?
