So there is 3 diffrent boxes (Gordon , Gman , Alex) but there is also 3 diffrent versions (SP only, SP+MP , SE) , so they have to make ones with Gordon on the box and with SP only , and one with Gordon on the box with SP+MP , and same for G-man and Alex? i hope i made this clear coz its a little confusing.

As far as I know, they plan on doing the same thing as Blizzard did with Warcraft III. At least with the boxes.

I'm assuming the SP + MP edition, the most common one of them all, would be Gordon.

The Special edition will have it's own unique metal box. It has the HL2 lambda logo engraved in metal. It was in one of those pics posted by the student who made a trip to valve.

Valve said numerous times, they haven't decided yet.

Its Alyx , not Alex. :P

I think they will have (Alyx as SP only), (Gordon as MP + SP) and (Gman as SE)

I'm guessing the face boxes will be used for both the single player and single player/multiplayer editions with an appropriate label designating which is which. The special edition box will most likely be one of those metal tins.

We've seen the SE, it's not G-man - it has a metal case with the HL2 lambda engraved on it. Something like Halo 2's.

I think rupert has it right - prolly the SP and Sp + Mp will have the three combos mixed up. I'm assuming they'll distribute according to region. So Candians can expect alyx while people in Britain can expect G-man. The U.S will most likely get Gordon.

As others have said...nothing confirmed.

But I'm guessing SE will be it's own box (metal or something special) and everything else will be in the three face boxes (which ever you decide you want) with stickers defining which version. Much like music CDs with stickers announcing: "contains the new hit single ______!" Except "Contains Single Player only version" etc.

Either that or, as someone else said, one face will contain one version, another face will contain a different version etc. THis probably makes the most sense though cost-wise.

Think it would be really costly to make three face boxes, with three different versions possible in each.

It makes absolutely no sense to make 3 versions of one game.

If the SE box is a tin im guessing it will just have the HL2 logo thing then underneath say 'special Edition' plain and simple, god knows wot addition items will be in there tho , rumors r that a beanbag Headcrab or summit silly lol

You're all forgetting about the Extreme Platinum Edition that features Barney on the cover.

yes it does make sense , for a start ppl may not want to play Multiplayer , they might not have the money or they might not have gd enuff computer to install mp+sp.

And the SE is for the ppl that jus want the most outa their HL2 experience and all the goodies that come with it :)

I want a headcrab hat in the collector's edition. :)

heck, I want a headcrab hat now. ;(

headcrab hats would rule..***n about the house screaming how its got you...awsomeness

i might be getting 2 copies of the game... the Collectors Edition and an SP + MP version but the Collectors Edition for sure :)

If you were valve, and you wanted to make the MOST money, making 3 version of one game that cost less would be an extreme profit loss on their end, and making them all cost the same price is dumb cause you could just buy the full thing for the same price.

what's the point in that?

Can anyone tell me if it is 100% true and confirmed there will be a SP only version?

I agree with the idea about SP only edition, what is the point in this? It would be useful for a few people but for the most part no one would care, i may even be one of those people, but frankly it's dumb. Maybe make it an option on the install but for the love of god, repackaging the whole thing just opens up the way for a large volume of wasted stock.

It is the wal mart version for a reason, some people don't have the internet or they have 56k(keep them the hell off internet games) and don't want to pay $30 more for somthing they would never use.

I never play MP and don't have an internet connection where I play. I won't even consider this game if I can't buy a copy in the store and play without being connected to Steam.

I might be getting 3 versions of half-life 2, 2 for sure.

my point is having the siblge player only or having the sp and mp together wont cost a significant amount different if anythign at all. Even if they cost a few quid dollars whatever different most people will go..'ah screw it maybe i'llw ant the occasional bash at tf2 or something' and go for both.

I have 56k and i sometimes play internet games, it's just better to feel like you are getting a finished product. The Steam paranoia is unjustified, you are saying that because... well... i dunno, but i doubt it makes much sense.

SP is $20 full is $50, I think that is a huge difference.

fishlore, man, we've been through this before, you run the game through steam, but you don't have to connect unless your playing multiplayer, which your obviously not.

What I'm saying is because I don't have an internet connection where I play games I can't connect to Steam. Therefore if I have to connect to Steam I can't/won't play this game. I'm not paranoid. I'll admit that I think Steam is a ridiculous piece of garbage that shouldn't be required for a person playing a single player game, but that's besides the point.

I guess I have better things to do in my spare time than browse the internet. I might play 30-45 mins of games a night none of which is MP. Aside from that my computer is never on. If SP users are forced into using Steam, no biggie I'll just buy Doom 3 instead. No skin off my back.

[edited] Hey, ACLeroK212. I guess my brain refuses to try to understand this lol. I don't understand how you can log into steam without an internet connection in order to play SP through steam.

Steam is awesome, one of the best gaming services...err I don't know what to call it but it is one of the best of whatever it is.

aight.
whatever.
so now u know that HL2 will require Steam with or without an internet connection.

so what are u still doing here then? u make it sound like HL2 is some evil spyware based on it requiring Steam and won't purchase it and the "don't care" attitude... so maybe its time to leave? <shrugs>

amen, why come here bitching like that, steam shall come on the disc, simply use it once then you are in, what's the big deal about using steam just to verify you aren't a thief?

because you don't have to connect to the internet to use steam. once connected you can play multiplayer games, download updates, etc. but you can use steam in offline mode and load up your games like any normal single player game. think of it like internet explorer. you can run internet explorer in offline mode and view webpages and whatnot that have been cached or downloaded to your computer. these webpages are obviously not up to date and stuff but you can work with them nonetheless. same thing with steam. you have the content downloaded on your computer and you can play them whenever you want even if your not connected to the internet.

you sound like you have a very basic understanding of steam. we went through all this before in a previous thread with you and i understand your conflict, but you told us you never used steam before, so maybe you should at least use it or at least become somewhat familiar with it before you come back on here and start up with the "steam is a piece of garbage" statements again.

Collect `em all and become the HL master :naughty:

and then go cry in the corner after you spent all that money, go online and get pwned by some 12 year old in CS:S and realize that you no longer deserve the title "HL master" ;)
