Oldblivion version 11t4 (test) just came out (not compatible with the oblivion beta patch)

Now you can set everything how it runs best for you by clicking the config application. It now can enable/disable graphics settings like view distance and specular lighting on-the-fly according to your frame-rate.

This is how I have mine set up. Specular lighting (makes things reflect light or look shiny) is disabled on mine, but some of you may have an AGP or PCI-E graphics card that handle much more than mine and still have a good frame-rate.

FYI:
clipping = view distance (mine is set pretty short so I can get a decent frame-rate)
Ambient lighting = the lighting from candles and stuff, and didn't seem to hurt my framerate
Diffuse lighting = you need this
Specular lighting = reflections, make metal look metal, etc. Optional in my opinion.

changing the Fog value does not affect perfomance, it just effects the way it looks (lavender mist) I would just leave it how asp set it, it looks the best IMO.

Once you set it up, it works great. Also recommended is the Nirnato mod. Makes the special Nirnroot plant look like a tomato plant instead of weird graphics anomalies for users of oldblivion.

If the old version of oldoblivion made my game look screwed up, will thsi one make it look f'ed up?

It shouldn't. The first version of oldblivion was basically just a crash preventive app., and looked horrible. This version is leaps and bounds above it.

What do you have to lose by trying it? takes less than a second to download.

If you don't set it up by launching the config application, you may see the diffuse lighting turning on and off, because it turns lighting off if your framerate gets too low, and turns it back on when it comes back up some. Quite annoying so be sure to set diffuse lighting up right. I have it so its always on. It has to be 0 fps to turn off and anything above 1 fps it is on. Look at the screenshot above.

Eh, I'll let you know if it's messed or not tomarrow, I don't feel like installing Oblivion right now, I'll save your screenshot for later reference, thanks for it.

Take a screenshot of the game showing how it's messed up and maybe I can tell you how to fix it - that is, if it's messed up.

EDIT: Note - screenshot was updated with what turned out to be a much better setup than my last one Dog--. Framerate is much better.

Did they fix the 'solid cloud' bug with certain spell effects (i.e. Obliv gates or the effect when conjuration thingies disappear)

They fixed a ton of things but that isn't one of them.

It's all dark on my card tbh
Thats because you didn't set up the diffuse lighting correctly. Set it up like I did in the screenshot.

Diffuse Lighting:
Forced, 0 FPS , 1 FPS.

Specular Lighting checkbox is optional if your PC can get a decent frame-rate with it.

Wow this version is really nice! Finally a GUI like asp said he would.

Wow, My oblivion looks like medium quality Doom 3 graphics, and I can acually play it now! hurray!

When there are tons of things on screen (Like in rindirs staff store) it goes a little bit slow, but just a 5-10 framerate drop, I can deal with that.

Congrats man! Welcome to the elite 33,000 oldblivion user base. :D Go play the game! GTFO :P

I assume your settings are the best to run it on? I love Oldblivion, but the occassional framerate drops are hell (a small price to pay though for being able to play the game).

Trust me, if I could change a setting to get it to run any better I would. This is all shes got captain. Yea, I would set it up like I have it. You could experiment with ambient lighting, but for my PC turning it off didn't make a difference and doesn't work well since I believe torches use ambient lighting ...

The only things you can do beyond that is remove the grass (like i did) and you can put 2D trees and shrubs buy putting the tree fade distance slider all the way down. I don't really mind it, but others may laugh. The framerate is highly playable like 18-45 fps. I would love to be able to use specular lighting because it looks beautiful but I'm pushing my system as it is. I can use specular, but once I get in a fight with an enemy or enemies, it's just too choppy for me, so I leave it off.

I also run it 752 resolution because 640 just looks terrible and 800x600 is just too much for my PC. I also use large textures since i have quite a bit of virtual RAM, and I don't notice any performance benefit from using smaller textures - plus large textures look much better.

This version of oldblivion is much better framerate than the previous one I was using, and is a hell of allot better. You should be noticing it running better.

I notice it looking better, but the FPS is terrible. I'll check again after Windows Service Pack 2 finishes installing, but I'm going to have to tweak for a while before it's playable again - I can't fight anymore, the fps is so bad...

Well, keep in mind what I said about the trees. Also make sure your view / clipping distance is somewhere like mine. Also, using the in game sliders, I have lowered the item and object views to like 20%.

It's hard for me to believe that someone in this world has a worse computer than me. LOL :P

You might just do what I did for the past month and just always use tlb

Type tlb in console when you load your game. fps = very high.

I have no grass anymore; maybe i'll muck with the trees. My main graphical problem with Oldbliv right now though is the water... can't see through it, all is there si the blue texture i replaced the horribly screwey water with.

I can run it with all sliders on full (Except grass, omg major FPS dropper), Res at 1024x768, bloom is off, water it normal detail, blood decals are high, and no anti-aliasing (I don't even know what that does.).

The only cruddy thing is that there is no shadows... there are dark spots where shadows are supposed to be, but that isn't the same as hiding in some nice shadows, that is my biggest let down, but with everything good, there is something bad I guess.... :(

BTW, Jintor, I had that blue thing on the water too, but I noticed it's only because I set the graphical slider to high, try them at 50% instead of like 70-100%, and if your saved when those things were there, then I found out that your stuck with them...

And Virus, what does tlb do?

I believe it increase the lighting, decreasing the shadowing requirements. Basically your monitor will glow in your face.

Maybe try removing the water texture that you put in there. I don't have that problem.

I would try and remember that this program is a beta. There are bugs. Some may never be fixed, but others will. I don't let any bugs bother me because I am happy to be able to play the game. I can't tell you how many posts I have read on the oldblivion forums where people are complaining because they have purple water or for something else that I feel is nitpicking. They are giving asp a hard time when they are damn lucky to be able to play the game without spending a few thousand dollars for a new PC! Be patient and just try to enjoy the game. I believe that you feel that this is a special case where you may be able to change a setting in order to fix the water, but it's not really. The water is not fixed yet. Hopefully asp can get everything fixed eventually, and hopefully very soon, but as of yet, it's not fixed. He's only been working on oldblivion for a few weeks, and I don't think he has time to work on the water much because he has been fixing other things which are much more important.

tlb makes the game look worse than morrowind. tlb = turn lite brite ON/OFF. Framerates should be about 3 times better since there is no longer any shading used, also it makes it very easy to see - day or night.

Oh, BTW it's not likely that oldblivion will ever support shadows or bloom. Turn them off. As for saving with a setting a certain way and your stuck with them, that's not so. I'm not exactly sure what specifically you are referring to but there is always a way to change the settings, at the very worst you could edit the Oblivion.ini

Anybody got a link to the newest patch? (Not this one)
