Ok, I bought HL2 on steam, and this afternoon on my home LAN I played with my buddy with no apperent problems from steam, what Im concerned though that this may not be allowed. :(
I tried searching the Steam powered forums, but LAN is not 4 letters so it wont, and no one types you local area net if they dont have to. Of course I cant create a new thread because I dont have enough posts there...

So, is my steam account in deep sh*t?
Unfortunately this only crosed my mind after the fact...

I don't think its allowed; 1 steam account / computer.
Now, if you can log on to the steam network, that probably means your account is still valid :)

Isn't it impossible to login with the same acount twice anyway?
So maybe you found/expoited a bug or steam allowed it because you probebly had same ip's?

Anyway just guessing.

This is really annoying me as well. We have 4 PCs at home (I have 3 siblings) and I dont see how I can buy 4 seperate copies for 4 seperate computers so they can all play. And if singleplayer requires a steam account as well.. oh boooyyy :|

(theyre shit computers though, they might not run it anyway..)

Try a search on the Steam support FAQ with the phrase 'using Steam offline'. It will explain how to run Steam on a LAN.

they can hardly ban your steam account for you doing something that isnt blocked from doing, or has no warnings saying "dont do this or ya banned, git"

as far as i know, steam only checks ips when playing an interent game, as playin lan doesnt actually require a net connection, if it makes u feel better unplug ur internet connection when u play lan

btw i dont condone anything i may have refered to, or anything that may happen due to something i didnt refer to.
