In Half Life 2, in the final Chapter 'Dark Energy', Dr Breen talks about if the resistance are willing to have a new leader, he offers Gordon Freeman his job. Why wont Gordon take that? He can have power over City 17, and make it a better place.
Can someone please explain...

What on earth!? Despite the leader, the Combine are not going to allow any leader to dictate the situation so that life is good for anyone in City17. He means to rule the empire and be generally nasty. If Gordon did good, the Combine would kill him. Breen probably offers that to entice Gordon by giving him power, which wouldn't happen to a "hero" now would it? :P

Anyway, City 17 is totally levelled now.

So resistance carry on fighting the combine, even if Gordon was leader?

Well, they would hate him and want to kill him, so yes. Although their force would be severely weakened without him, they are fighting for their lives, their freedom and survival of earth & the species. They are after all called the "resistance", and would fight with everything they could give.

Oh okay. I was telling my friend, and he thought it was riduculous. Also, at the time I was playing it, I thought, why not?

Yes, Gordon is the "hero" of HL 1 and 2. But he never speaks or shares his views on anything. All we know is he's a scientist out of MIT. Maybe he wants to be the leader of the combine. Maybe he's a power hungry SOB.

What would've happened if Breen had offered Gordon boobage instead of power...

To paraphrase Eli Vance: I'm just glad there's no quick way out of that HEV suit.

He basicly means that the resistance will follow Gordon. So he thinks if he hired Gordon from the g-man he could use Gordon to get the resistance to surrender.

What is the point of telling people your steam account?

It is pretty annoying, I can hardly see it. Actually- better that way than big I suppose, nice one.

Everything Gordon's ever done, including wanting to work in the field of theoretical physics, has been to make things easier/better for mankind. His whole point of joining the Black Mesa facility was to further this goal. He's a pretty selfless person, not the type to want power even if it was offered to him--unless such a position would help him help humanity.

Beat me to it. :)

Breen didn't offer Gordon power in the Combine hierarchy, he was suggesting that, once Eli was gone, Gordon Freeman could take over as the head of the resistance and persuade people to cease resisting the Combine. I'm sure that after that Breen would've given Gordon some kind of tentative reward...maybe allowing him to work for the Combine in some capacity, as Dr. Mossman did. But no actual "power."

Y would u think Gordon would turn from the resitance to the Combine are u dumb lol no affence but............

Am I dumb? Coming from a man who can't spell basic English words. And BTW, dumb means unable to speak so it doesn't have much to do with this :P

And I'm not saying I think he would; I'm saying Breen thinks he would. Besides, who knows, perhaps the g-man could make Gordon surrender the resistance, or just make people think he did.
