only shows exit

i finally got steam to work and now it takes 5 minutes to log on and when i do the steam icon apears ath the bottom right corner and when i click on it the normal steam menue doesnt pop up and nothing happens and when i right click it the only option that comes up says exit. i have tried installing and installing and just about everything sooo do u guys no what i can do so i can play
