Options for non-internet pc's

I know you guys probably get a lot of questions similar to these...I searched through the thread with Gabe's response but didn't see one that worked for my situation...anyway, here goes.

Here's my system specs:

AMD XP2500
512mb ddr333
MSI ti4800se 128mb video card
MSI k7n2 delta-l motherboard

Will hl2 run reasonably well on my system? Should I be able to run it at 1024x768?

And my last question...

My gaming computer doesn't have an internet connection, but I could put dial-up on it temporarily for registration purposes. I was told that I could play hl2 collector's edition on my non-internet pc as long as I connected to steam once to register the game, and then always had the dvd in my drive when I was playing. Is this true? Or do I need to always have an internet connection active to play the collector's edition (or any edition for that matter!) on my pc? Thanks.

At low graph you can have 1024x768 I'm sure.

You just need Internet on your PC to validate your copy with Valve, after that you can play in offline mode.

- You only need an internet connection to activate the game when you first install it.
- After you have activated it, you can play it offline or online - its optional. You won't have to connect to the net again after.
- Valve have released a patch through Steam so that you can play Half-Life 2 without the DVD.
- Enjoy Half-Life 2.

Thanks for the quick replies guys! Just one more question for ya... Do I have to download files of significant size during the registration process? Or should it go fairly quickly over 56k?

It will take you some time, even with my T1 it takes about 15 minutes to validate all the files.

It shouldn't take more then 20 minutes to do it.

Just get a free AOL CD. Cheap and easy. You get 100 of them through the post.

The validation sequence is not dependant on your internet connection.
