i always thought that a path_track entity was treated as a point entity, and that it was the origin of the corresponding tracktrain that passed through the centre of the path_track. however i'm now finding that although this happens initially when the map loads (i.e. the tracktrain starts with its origin in the same place as the centre of the first stop target), once the tracktrain has been moved (by a trigger, button etc), its origin now seems to align itself with whatever edge of the path_track entity (i.e. the brown cube you see in hammer) it hits first, leaving out of alignment

one question: will setting the orientation in the path_tracks to 'no change' fix this for a simple up and down elevator?

ok, so does anyone know how to ensure that tracktrain elevators line up with the floors after they move?

I don't recall any strange behaviour except that a tracktrain moving in reverse doesn't stop correctly. It's quite possible you've found a path-detection problem that can't really be fixed...

well i have the 2 path_tracks in a loop, so the output for moving is always 'start forward'. the thing spawns in lined up properly, but the next path_track it moves to it's like the origin of the tracktrain lines up with the brown bounding box as seen in hammer rather than the path_track origin

i don't recall any re-usable elevators in HL2 so perhaps valve got around this by simply moving the path_tracks to cover the glitch..? might try that...
