peculiar markings

After you exit the test chamber, the first scientist that talks to you offers to activate the retinal scanners but before he gets to the scanner he looks at you and says "look at those peculiar markings"and i got thinking. why wont valve let us see Gordon?
maybe this is a big part of the story?

it's just a random scientist line, like: "I predicted all of this you know, all of it." or "Wouldn't you love to get one of these blood samples under a microscope?"
