When I saw this mod on the news page awile back, I was immediatley excited. I think any fans of the N64 Game should watch this game carefully. Also, they have some new content that you guys havent posted yet, Including a top notch video of some maps and the LAPTOP GUN.

Aren't they aware of the huge IP infringement they are doing?

Guess we'll just have to wait until they get shut down like this mod did: http://www.stargatesource.com/
lolerskates @ the comments on the stargate site. They really are doing their best to look like the victim aren't they haha, stupid children.

Oh and yeah agreed, this one will get closed down too, what a waste of all their time... ha.

Checking their website there is some nice mapping team over there, and some nice texture work.

Impressive.

Cheers,
bbyybb.

can't they change the name and it is no longer an ip infringment?

Yeah, making a Perfect Dark mod when Perfect Dark Zero is probably going to be a next-gen console launch title isn't exatly a great idea in terms of the best time to try to get away with copyright infringement...

cant wait to see how this game is, and i also cant wait till perfect dark zero. hopefully one of my rich friends buys a next generation console so i can play it :)

Stargate mod got shutdown? Odd, I have seen other SG mods in other games modding away without the big corps attacking them.

Rareware wouldn't give it to them, unless they are very very cool.....but still, this mod MUST BE MADE!!!! We should support them all the way, I've wanted a PD mod for years, and these guys are talented as hell!!!

EDITED: check this out....from one of the guys over at PDmod,

"About us we work on HL² modification named Perfect-Dark.
We make own map and story and we dont have any promotionnal or buisness objective.

If rareware ask to stop it we remake the game concept in new name 'perfect darkness' for exemple. And we are completly protected. "

They seem to be very devoted to doing this mod no matter who stands in their way.......the whole thread is here

They're still infringing if they call it Perfect Darkness. They should just ask for permission (who knows, it may work! Look at Star Wars!), or just make it slightly different.

That isn't exactly going to work if they are asked to cease and desist, shut down the website and send Rareware all files related to the modification and delete any copies.

The thing about IP, and why the corporations must protect themselves, isn't because they're greedy evil bastards who attack the little man, but because if they're not seen protecting their IP they will lose it, since by letting a mod team steal their IP they're basically saying "Hey! We don't care what people do with our IP".

You wouldn't want Rareware to lose the rights to Perfect Dark, would you?

It doesn't matter whether you make money off it or not, not dealing with IP used without permission is lethal to any company or trademark.

man, Idk the legal mumbo jumbo......but I really just want this mod to happen, and I hope Rareware lets it happen.

I can't help but think that some of these developers- no matter how talented they might be- are massively niave.

If they can think far enough ahead to consider the possible action that Rareware might take against them, why not produce a mod with a different name but a similar feel?

Matrix films -> Existence mod, anyone?

naive, maybe.........god, should someone help them out? well, they told the last infringment warner that they were fine.....IDK, can anyone talk them into a namechange to protect the mod?

Ok guys, I'll lay this out for you:
The Perfect Dark team is based in France. The Perfect Dark copywright is based in the USA. Unless Rare has a basis in France, then they cant shut down ths MOD.

So I'd suggest to stop worrying.

Hahaha. Haha. Hahahahahaha.

I can't tell if that was sarcastic laughter or just random laughter, Harij. But that's because I'm stupid. Enlighten me.

lol, my thoughts exactly. I for one hope its random, because I would really like to stop worrying

Yeah, that's why the Perfect Dark remake I was working on (leading Perfect Dark: Source, then when we later got assimilated into Tribute to Darkness I worked on it as well) decided to pre-emptively shut down before we got too much work done.

I wish them luck and I hope they get a beta or something out before they're shut down.

France is a member of the World Trade Organisation:

With respect to copyright, parties are required to comply with the substantive provisions of the Berne Convention for the protection of literary and artistic works, in its latest version (Paris 1971), though they will not be obliged to protect moral rights as stipulated in Article 6bis of that Convention.

I'm no expert (I hate the way they write these things), but AFAIK if Rare wanted to protect their property, it's very much within their power.

God, I miss that game. And my N64. Thankfully I'm home from college for awhile...maybe I'll bust out the ol' N64. Some of the best gaming in my life.
