It's pointless.
Vivendi haven't actually done anything yet.
It contains one of the most laughable lines I've seen in ages.

We want VUG to recognize the consumers as active participators in Half-Life 2's development

and other threads aren't pointless? what makes this thread more pointless than others?

How about they modify that message so everybody understands it? I'd say they should change it to "*sob*we hate you*sob*".

"We also want VUG to be aware that we, as consumers of Half-Life 2, have power to take action at whatever injustices we believe exist, and that our actions against such injustices can and will change the circumstances."
How would we change the circumstances? By making our local newspapers tell all the people that VUG are bastards who don't deserve the money and that they should buy HL2 through Steam instead? And exactly what injustices would be VUG's fault? It's not like they've been saying that the game's coming out soon. Unless they mean the injustices that VALVe suffers from.

Give up on this, VALVe and VUG will have their dogfight and we won't be allowed to participate, we won't even be allowed to stand next to them and look. We only get to occasionally look through a hole in the wall, which doesn't reveals much.

Edit: Nope, other threads aren't as pointless. They allow for discussion about the game and what'll happen next. The only kind of discussion this can bring about is if the petition makes any difference or not.

VU will see the online petition and tremble

It will make them restructure their entire corporation and hire hookers for those who created it. Possibly even stock options to appease them.

giving up sounds cool.

why don't we all give up and start cussing them instead? cussing and whining sure makes me feel a lot better...

Seriously, these online petitions never work.

Vivendi doesn't give a rat's ass about us

and i can see why ur a passive participant to disses the active participants

the world is built upon action.
and in times of doubt, it's better to take action than inaction.

I was referring to the actual petition. It's pointless, it makes claims that aren't true and it's against something that Vivendi hasn't even done yet.

# arguments against petition: 1
it is "pointless" b/c it will do absolutely nothing and change nothing.

well, by that definition, all threads in the forum is pointless b/c they do absolutely nothing and change nothing. but that's not the case. every thread contributes something, a thought or perspective that somebody else never thought of.

and what about the petition?

it may be just as shallow as the other threads, but why not? just why not?

and if it works, it works, if it doesn't, fine.

MAKE A PETITION WHEN VIVENDI HAS ACTUALLY DELAYED THE GAME.

Actually, don't make a petition any way, because Vivendi couldn't care what you think.

Err..wait a minute... I do want to take sides...

I am taking action. I took the action of posting to tell you this is pointless.

this thread is actually more useful than pretty much all the other threads

Oh brother... file this under "What if 12 year olds ruled the world?"

I havent really read much about the whole thing, but do people really think Vu will delay the game? Why would they do that? They want to make money, right? They get money for releasing the game... it cost money for them to keep it in.

I think whole thing is going waaaay overboard. Also, these things never work... just look at Futurama.

I think for the general peace and quiet of the forums I'm going to close this thread.

As someone stated, there's no point in doing a petition until the game actually gets delayed. Also, there are numerous petitions around on the same thing - wouldn't it be more effective to team up with them rather than make your own?

Also, it's a pretty much given that online petitions don't get taken any notice of.
