One of the major complaints about HL2 is its AI
No question
Some loved it, some hated it, some felt it reflected a stagnation in ai progress
Me, i felt they butchered the ai to make the game more welcoming to all
But we all know what valve is capable of...........
So in that vein why not put community pressure on them to release a hl2 patch with a new difficulty level, improved humanoid ai, a real challenge while maintaining roughlytheir present hp
make a single soldier a real threat, a squad of soldiers a fight for your life
Not only would the community appreciate it, Valve would benefit from having a game with so much replayability
This is pitch and my plea

If the community can keep requesting this in forums, in emails to valve etc, something will happen

Im sad to say after waiting for it for years, ive played Half Life 2 once. Im just waiting for the mods now, and replaying Half Life, Blue Shift and Opposing Force, plus HLS.

The game was too easy and please dont get me started on the "difficulty" of the last level and "boss" battle or the stupid AI of the combine.

Ive heard though that the SDK has the source to a much more advanced AI set than available in the game, so wait a see what BMS and other mods come up with using it, because Valve didnt for some reason...

thats three!
plus its far too difficult for a modmaker to do
change ai routines that are embedded in source with the sdk? not gonna happen
its valve's issue, people want so people should get it

AI is fine, all we need to do is derease player health and everyone will see how good they are.

I'd rather have hitboxes improved.

EDIT: See Sig.

I'm not a competetive gamer so I thought hl2 was perfect. I prefer the experience rather than the challenge. If you want a real challenge try the hl2:substance mod, it's the closest you'll get. Odds are Valve isn't going to code new AI for you and I, so why bother.

And on the subject of hitboxes, I watched the video and tryed it myself. It's a load of garbage. Sure in the video he makes it look like a problem, but try doing exactly what he did with your host_timescale slowed down. The hitboxes will be in front, sure, but you can't get a hit on him unless you shoot at the model.
Look at the attachment, that was me trying it 5 minutes ago. You'd have to be very gullable to beleive that valve would release an internet game with such a netcode problem and not fix it.

I was hoping they would include a new difficulty level in one of the updates. It wouldn't require improvements to the A.I. as much as it would more of a challenge through less health packs - They're bloody everywhere!!, More damage taken when hit forcing you to use cover more - You can just stand right in front of a Combine a take a good few hits before you snuff it, More stratigally placed ammo & less of it - with the gravity gun & a few objects to hurl at the combine you've always got plenty of disposable ammo apart from early on in the game when it's more scarse. As such the early part is more challenging (Or it would be if you couldn't take so many hits!)

Is the kevan.org even allowed here?

I can make a mod for you, hardest mod you would've ever played.

The combine are coded to fight with realistic health levels, man, use garry's mod+ and make 6v6 combine battles, you'll see what I mean, it's awsome.

improve AI with potentially massive hit to the CPU and reduction in frame rate?

Hmm, maybe hardware in a few years will be able to have amazing AI. But at the moment we're limited by hardware. Run a CS:S game with ohhh a certain level of bots and the frame rate dies. And that AI to me, is very stupid and simple.

Online petitions always get the job done! :x

The A.I is fine by the way.

hl2 was great, ide rather have them spend time on new content, like aftermath, lost coast, or better yet, hl3

AI was fine. Ammo and healthpack amount on the other hand was way big. I can play most of the game in >80 health, in hard mode.

The AI is fine as it is. In HL1, the Marines were harder because of their hitpoints.

Try editing skills.cfg and pumping the Combine hit-points, for additional evidence.

Yeah.

And they had even more medpacks to begin with...

Will you people please drop "oh, the AI was bullshit, bla bla bla, HL1 was better, bla"

It was just fine. You want a challenge? Go download substance mod and set it to Italian.

I thought the A.I did its job fine.

I just thought they didn't do enough damage on Normal Difficulty.
