GI: You mentioned in the original presentation that Portal will take place in the Half-Life universe. Will that connection be made in Portal or Episode Two?

That was wierd, I was reading the interview and some of that did not sound like what Lombardi would say lol...
 
"And actually for me it was calling up Matt Boone from the Day of Defeat team and saying, “Hey, do you want to bring your team to Valve and work here?” And just hearing the pause on the other end of the phone, and I was laughing in my head like, “This kid must just be crapping his pants right now.” It’s great to be able to give those guys their break, and introduce those guys into the game industry, and bring in that talent."

I've always thought that it was going to be a new character. :)
Great interview. Informative and lots of humour. <3 VALVe To bad all interviews isn't like this.
 
Well that settles it all of those threads trying to determine the Portal characters identity are obsolete.
 
And it also reveals the character, despite that computers claims, will not be minced: "that will have a role in Half-Life games in the future."
 
the interview also revealed that ep3 will be even less similar to hl2. so possibly a completely different setting and all new enemies.
 
I like the fact that the character from Portal will influence the story of future Half-Life games. Sort of like a "crossing over" form of storytelling, it adds another dimension to the story without tearing the immersion to shreds (using an existing character).

is portal set in the hl2 universe? Im surprised. though I did notice the bullets and bullet sounds did sound alike..
 
Well, that puts an end to the character debate. :)

I'm loving how these things will cross-over.
 
Well I've played Portal so I have my own conspiracy theories on how the story is connected (it doesn't start off with a backround information or anything, so you will have to figure things out on your own so far)... Unfortunately, I don't want to say anything for sake of potentially ruining anything from the game.

And I couldn't be more relieved. When I first heard the speculations about the episodes being the be all end all, I almost started crying. I don't know what I'd do without half life...oh god I need to get out more.

You didn't hear? Gordon got sent to a parallel universe where he battles endlessly on a farm between two teams. TF2 is the prequel to Half-Life 3!

Well even if they did (which I doubt... I think they just haven't finished things), then the PC and Xbox360 versions would get even more polished because of the delay ;)
