I was looking at the Raising the bar review thats on the site. And i was read the part about the coast in one of the page samples, and i noticed something.

It said that there are a lot of things unused from the coast that a ready to be used in furthur adventures. Does this mean that we may get the icebreaker level in an expansion... Maybe we get to see Judith Mossmans side of the story (she had the research lab on some icy place didn't she?)

Disscuss!

Yes its called kraken but it was completely cut from the game, therefore it isnt in anymore. Mossman works in black mesa east, eli's lab. And its completley ridiculous to think a a rag tag human resistance would have an underwater lab...

And yes, what they are referring to is in expansions we will most likley see alot of unused material that were originally intended for the coast.

And about the icebreaker...i really dont know...it contradicts the fact that the ocean is bieng dried..but i would like to see it stil..

Hopefully Ill be able to compile both parts this week + the arcade.

Valve can do what they want really - the could carry on the adventure as Barney, Alyx, Adrian or anyone.

I predict we'll see alot of stuff thrown into the expansion - for which I am very grateful, roll on e3.

Like Samon says, this area pretty much doesn't exist in the world of HL2. The best indication of that is that on the same diagram, you've got two characters: Captain Vance and Eli, both of which have been compressed into the same character. What was the air-exchange is now Nova Prospekt, and it's safe to assume that Eli's Lab is now an ammalgamation of Eli's original lab (in it's many planned forms) and what little of Kraken Base was thought salvageable.

it's a sea base
a kraken is a sea monster
that was hard work firing those neurons

Its also ridiculous for a rag tag human resistance to have teloportation technolgy...

No, no its not. Eli and kliener are both working scientists who were working at a top secret base and had unlimited access to all sorts of technologies, and, in that time they both worked on teleporters, they built them and they learnt how to use them. This was in the time of Black mesa.

Now, in city 17, eli has had enough time (and kliener) to construct a working teleporter. They both know how, they have stolen combine technology to help (as mossman says, combine thyristor) so it really shouldnt be all that hard.

And think about it, a cobbled together teleporter or large underwater base? Come on, whats the resistance gonna do get in thier swimming costumes and dive under water and slap some metal plates together....dont think so..

I don't have rtb in front of me, but I don't think it ever says kraken was an underwater base

Well, it was an underwater base...it confirmed from soem leak files on a certain site.

Are you sure it doesn't exist in the HL world? I could have sworn I heard it mentioned by one of the npc's in the game.....

Yes, its been completley taken out. You will have misunderstood what they said or something.

i wasn't pointing out a typo. i didn't know there was one. i was looking at the big word like "ooooh...shiny".

...and then i poked kupo for no good reason.

best expansion will be from a company tat isnt valve, so it wont be so freaking long to materialise!

plus, i wonder how kleiner got all those parts for the teleporter, specially the big ones, through his little door into his lab

Well if they did have the underwater base. I'd assume it would have been built long before the Combine invaded Earth, and not built by the resistance after the invasion.

But still... getting to it would be the tricky part unless they had a teleporter inside it or some small little sub (which would most likely made out of spare parts or something)

No, it wasnt, it was after the combine had invaded, its dr mossmans lab, and thats why they cut it because its unrealistic for rebels to have such.

I think that most the expansion's will come from Valve, and because the story and engine are allready there, they wont take 'so freakin long to materialize'.

Valve have already confirmed they will be doing thier own expansions this time round.

In addition to unused levels, you have unused animations also for the Vortigaunts. I think the expansion will come faster than anyone anticapates because there is sooo much unused material that was going to be used in the original game that wasn't and now it can be ported over to the expansions.

ah, nice to hear that...

You guys sound like you didn't like Gearbox's Opposing Force. Personally, I found OpFor to fit into the HL universe very well, and I genuinely liked Adrien Shepard, & wouldn't mind him coming back. Whether Gearbox, or Valve does it, it will still be great.

YEah, i'd like to see HL2 op-for, mabye a view more on the military side of the resistance with a few scrounged up apaches and tanks from military bases not found by the combine.

How did you guess?

Yes, i am a very anti shepard person, to be honest, i hate the character and i really, really hate Race X. Race X was just the most convolted and crap looking alien species seen in a videogame bar the Shock trooper who looked cool.

Those were man hates for opposing force, not exactly shepard, just Race X.

Other than that Opposing force had some brilliant level design, like when your in the room where the walkways are collapsing with the toxic below, or the Ichty chambers

I didn't like Race-x either, but I do like Shepard. And I would love playing as him again..

I have to agree with Fire on this one, I think this would be great. I don't know about the Apache part, but I definitely like the idea of the tank.
