Let's hope it won't be Deus Ex: The Fall all over again.
Whats up with The Fall? Haven't been keeping up with the vidja gossip lately. It was another DLC type repackaging wasn't it? Did it suck or something?

Also, even if it sucked, I'd still watch a Deus Ex movie and like it.

I would be pleased to see more Deus Ex.

They have been talking about an "expanded universe" for the franchise since last year. With a full next-gen game to follow up Human Revolution, as well as all the typical Square Enix tie in nonsense. So far only one piece of concept art exists for the new game..

HR wasn't completely perfect, but it was closer than I ever expected it to get. I actually wouldn't mind if they chose to semi-ignore the original 1999 plot, and grow the HR story as an alternate continuity. They probably wont do that, but a separation wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

I just hope they remain committed to the spirit of the original. The Thief remake was a bit of a disappointment, and it would be a shame if HR turned out to be lightning in a bottle.

Apologies if people hate Totalbiscuit, but this video covers most of the problems.

It could also be a Deus Ex book or movie. Actually, a Deus Ex book could actually be pretty cool. I would definitely read it.

There actually was a tie in novel for Human Revolution called Icarus Effect, but I didn't think much of it.

Speaking of a Deus Ex movie though, this was kinda fun..

The Fall was a stand alone Deus Ex game on Android with it's own story. A prequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Actually, The Fall was a decent game. But try and imagine a Deus Ex game with touch controls and less processing power. The result is crappy physics, crappy AI and small cramped levels. Loading was also kind of a chore.

But then a year later, Eidos Montreal just ported the touch version of the game to PC, slapped some unbindable bad key mapping with horrible gameplay. Level Desgin was good, but very linear. It wasn't fun, because everything was so ****ed up to begin with. For instance, every time you shoot, your FOV quickly changes to 150, and quickly goes back to 70. Really disorienting when it to comes shooting automatic weapons. The game just became worse.

Totalbiscuit even says it's worse than Invinsible Wars. And he's a Deus Ex veteran fan.

Edit:

Orly? I'll look into that.

I loved Invisible War, but I assume the comparison is in regards to the gameplay, which, yeah, was pretty bad.

Maybe it'll approach the genius that is their true magnum opus, Thi4f.

I'm playing through The Fall on Android right now. As a mobile game I think it is excellent, though the controls are a bit difficult to use. Seeing what it looks like on PC though... yikes.

My main concern is that the "Deus Ex Universe" thing becomes way too reliant on alternate media. It's going to suck if the next big game has a bunch of dead end plot threads that are explained in comics, novels, mobile/handheld games.

It annoyed me a bit that the three boss mercenaries in Human Revolution had no story behind them. They were just three meat walls that showed up whenever one of them needed to die. Yet, it may have pissed me off more if their back story HAD been revealed in some other piece of media. I just hate that kind of crossover nonsense.

It's a dumb pretentious way to announce the expansion of the IP, nothing is changing.
