I just ordered half-life 2 through Steam and it's about 6% downloaded as I write this.

My concern is once I am done downloading, can I backup the files to a DVD this way if I ever reformat my hard drive, I don't have to re-download the game.

And where are the files being downloaded?

Thanks,
BacMan

Yea just use the back up files on half life 2, and they are being downloaded into your steam apps folder in valve as far as I know

Yup, if you right click on any game currently installed under teh play games menu you will see an option to backup game files...

Thanks. 11.2% complete. So everyone is still waiting to play right? 1 and 1/2 hours to go right?

Yep, this is going to be the longest 1 1/2 hours of my life...

Steam also has an integrated backup feature, so you'll do just fine.

Relax, have something to eat, watch a little TV. I'm going to take a warm shower. It's cold here in NY. I gave my copy of Halo 2 to my cousin who's poor computer is in pieces under my desk because of bad RAM. I didn't like multiplayer Halo 2 much - too much waiting around. I think Halo PC is better. I've never played Counter Strike so I'm guessing, I'm going to be way behind in the multiplayer. I'm mostly looking forward to the single player though.

Thanks for answering my question. I feel better now.
