pre load + buying the game

if i have prelaoded the hl2, and then buy it retail (didnt buy it off steam), can i just pop in the serial code form the box and play hl2 with installing the 6 cds?

Yup, when you get your box, get out your CD Key, go into Browse Games (the "catalog" if you will) and then click "Register a Product I Already Own" and type the CD Key there!! Then it will unlock for you
