Preload CS:S separately?

I haven't been preloading hl2 because I have it on preorder, but the silver package is tempting me so. However, does anybody have any insight on whether I can download CS:S separately from hl2, avoiding having to dl the 4 gig or whatever it is of hl2 in order to play cs:S (Because I'm impatient and wanna play right away )

Nope no way. You have about 1 more hour untill it gets released. Trust me it wont take that long to download. When i download off steam everything gets done super fast.

Thing is tho, won't it pop up on the steam games list as a separate thing... Otherwise in order to play it you'd have to be able to open hl2 to get to it? And so.. maaaaybe it'll appear separate with the option to preload?

They might do it that way eventually, but not right now. Right now it's a package or nothing.

I'm pretty sure there was something in the info from Valve thread about that... Somewhere anyway, I think I read that someone asked them the same question directly.

CS:S will be made available seperately.. but I doubt it will today.

today the steam packages go live (and the ability to play CS:S with those packages)

The whole point of this move is so Valve can get us to buy through Steam rather than retail. It wouldn't really work if they sold CS:S separately.

I'm not buying it today, but I probably will in a week or so. I don't have time to play at the moment so I'd rather keep the money in my wallet.

As soon as you plug in your credit card numbers and the transaction goes through, you can play CS:S. So yes.

if you have it fully preloaded
and you PAY for it, then yes

either via ati coupon, or buying one of the steam packages.

I took the bait and cancelled my preorder last night (which was initiated Aug of last year) to buy on Steam.

I'm crossing my fingers this whole Valve/Steam concept stays around for a while.

With the money that Valve will make off of HL2 in the beginning, and then the additional money they will make from people buying the game later on because of all the new kickass mods that will come out for it, Steam will be up for a very, very long time.
