Since Terminator/Short Recoil isn't around these days, I thought I would take it on myself to provide you with a comprehensive compendium of information and devices necessary to survive on your own without the cushy blanket of infrastructure that you have come to expect. Or you could just have a fun DIY weekend with this stuff:

Keeping Cars and Engines Running without the Gas Station:
Natural Gas and Gasifiers:
How to run your car on wood - FEMA
How to get methane out of shit - Penn State
Convert your car to run on natural gas - Mother Earth News
Biodisel:
How to make biodisel from oils - Canadian Biodisel Initiative Workshop
Biodiesel from algae - UNH
How to get oil from seeds (then you can make it into biodiesel) - Janet Bachmann
Ethanol:
All about ethanol - Moter Earth News

Okay,so now your car is running on trees and horse shit, but what about your ipod?
Well you could use the fuels above to run a gas or diesel generator, or
Turning a Volvo disc brake into a low rpm wind generator
Microwave oven wind generator
General info on micro hydro

Food::
A list of everything you can eat if you are really hungry (very long)

And of course, homemade weapons:
Flamethrower
Exploding arrows + bonus info

If you guys have more good info, I will add it to this post

I haven't had the time to really evaluate your strategies lately Dan, but it's probably not a bad idea to start considering the possibility of collapse. Especially here in the U.S. I hope by then though, I'll be too old to give a damn. I'd be more concerned for my grand young'uns though tbh (if I ever have any that is),as I don't foresee this happening in the near future. Give me a raincheck on this and I'll get get back to you when I have some time.

It's also good for when oil prices become very high or gasoline is scarce. During WWII, many parts of Europe relied on wood gas to run all of the civilian vehicles and farm equipment.
