When I open up steam I get this message: Cannot connect to steam network please try again. I've tried almost everything that was in the network troubleshooting thing, I've reinstalled Steam etc. Before I reinstalled I got a different message but I can't remember what it was, same symptoms though.

It would seem to be a problem with my internet connection ( I am using a crappy cable, and Dial-up:() but everything else seems fine (except from messenger, but it works fine most of the time). And now I haven't been able to log on for a loooong time.

Anyone know what this problem is?

BTW: I tried searching but I couldn't find anything
I don't know if this is the right forum or not, but it seemed fittinh.

really?

in my experience, all my steam problems have stemmed from router problems. are you behind a router/on a university/college/work network? if so, try connecting your computer directly to the internet and see if you have the same problem. if you dont then you know its a router problem.

the next thing to try is a complete reinstall of steam, but i guess youve already tried that.

another thing to try is the Microsoft AntiSpyware BETA program. Its amazing. I run both adaware and spybot, and the MS tool caught everything AND more. get it from:

seriously, its the best antisppyware program out there. run that and see what it picks up, clean everything and try steam again.

if that doesnt work i would personally try a computer reformat and a fresh install. that would pretty much guarantee to solve your problem. if you cant be bothered to do that, go here:

and submit a steam support ticket. they might take a while to get back to you, but are very knowledgeable and will be able to help you fix your steam problem...
