Hi.
I have made a gun model and textured it. now i have seen that my polycount is around 2000 and trianglecount is around 5000..
I have found things I can optimize on the model but is there any way to do this without ruin my whole UVW Unwrap? i.e if i have 2 planes that is side by side and is textured. can i delete the edge betwen them and still have it textured correct? Would be so happy if someone could help me..
cheers

The parts that are resized/stretched/etc. when you you delete/combine unnecessary parts/segments/polygons, would need to be either re-UVW mapped, or the coordinates would just need to be moved into the right place to match.

You mean the two planes are flat, like if you were to flatten a box? Yeah, deleting the polygons between them shouldn't affect the two planes and the texture.

In the future you need to do all optomizing and cleaning up before UVW mapping. Optomize as much as possible, if you can accomplish the same noticeable details with a much lower polygon count, then you should do it. If there are polygons and segments that can be removed without taking any noticeable detail out, or messing up a certain structure, etc. then they should be removed or combined.

(And you only need to post the triangle count, there is no reason to post the number of full polygons or both.)

okej.. But what will happen if i stay with mine 5000 triangles? wont i be able to use it in game?

Yes you could use it in game but if you keep the bad habbit of not optimizing your models, the game will lag and it won't be fun to play. I'm 99% sure you can cut down the poly count by at least 800 polies without affecting the appearance of the model at all. Another ~1k polies could be cut down by removing unnecessary/unoticable details.

got it down to 3500 triangles.. found some really stupid things i had done=)..
I post a pic so you see how it looks.. remember that its the first modell i have ever done and its the first time i texture anything.. so dont flame me with bad things=) but some tips and comments would be nice..
cheers

Post a couple pictures of it showing the wireframe and just the model, without the texture so we can see the model itself better.

Looks like a cross between an HK G3 and a FN FNC... What gun did you make it after?

its an AK5. Used by the swedish millitary. I post a ref pic here to.
cheers

its an AK5.
Which is a modified FN FNC... :P

You can take some of the sides out of the front ironsight, it doesn't need any more then 12 sides (8 sides would be sufficient), any more would just be a waste as it won't make a noticeable difference since it's small and far from the view (like the barrel).

You can also go through and delete all of the faces that are inside and hidden by other parts of the gun.
