Q: Steam Updating

Just wondering if anyone has the complete picture on how Steam updating works. I have just this one question.

If you stay logged into Steam overnight and there is a platform update (not media) released during this time, does Steam automatically update itself or does it just work when restarting Steam?

That's why I asked because I thought you had to restart Steam! Anyone else know for sure?

No. After it's updated you have to select the ''game'' and choose "properties." Under properties there will be a drop menu with the option of "Always keep this game up to date," And in order for it to update itself it must be selected.
By default, it's not.

Read the question, it was for the platform update and not individual game or media updates!

yes for platform updates you need to restart steam.
