Qiro has just had it's website launched. Why not come and have a look? http://www.qiro.transangel.com/

Qiro, a new Half-Life 2 modification is coming. Revolving around hot air balloons, you and your team must race the opposistion to the top and win the race. Sounds simple and linear? It isn't. From aspects using weather to your advantage to creating obstacles using vehicles to slow the enemy, Qiro invites you to a new realm in gaming.

The site's cute, but not exactly conducive to easy navigation.

From what I gather about the mod itself, though, it looks very fun and interesting. I hope you have something more to show us soon.

Site design is nice even if it's a bit abstract, but the mod concept is what interests me here.

How do you plan on implementing all of this? It looks like a stellar, original concept, but I don't know how easy it'd be to make :E

Good luck, I'll keep my eye on this one.

Very interesting idea. I hope you guys can make it, it sounds fun!

Fairly non-descript, but an interesting concept. I'm not going to sign up to Forums to ask the real basics, so I'll ask them in this thread:

- How big are the teams?
- How many teams will be supported?
- Will maps be shaped like corkscrews or like racetracks? (i.e. will they consist of a simple chimney with obstacles leading you around in that environment, or will they be more like a vertical racecourse with significantly tangents that rejoin forming alternate routes and shortcuts)
- Approximately how long will the average race last? Are we talking fast-paced or tactical?

Sorry for the lack of description. I will update the about section with more detailed explainations.

-There will be two teams.- A typical number of people playing a game would be 6vs6 - 12vs12

-Maps will be shaped like corkscrews. Tracks will not be incorperated, although it will have some of the aspects your metioned; there will be shortcuts, but ultimately they will be harder to travel through.

-Games will consist of rounds. Rounds will usaully last around 6 minutes.

-When making the mod, I hope that it will balance tactical play and fast-paced action. The balloons themselves won't be most of the action. By that I mean this isn't going to be a 100 m/ph race. They will be traveling quite slow. It's the amount of action happening around them. The balloons will be respected in the game as a object that needs defending. It's up to you to slow the opponents balloon and protect your own. But of course, you will be able to change the speed and direction of the vehicle, so don't think control is being neglected.

intresting idea i hope to see some media and more info on the mod :D good luck

Interesting idea. If you can say. How will be defend? How will you slow down the opponents balloons.

I want physics to play the major role in slowing down the balloon. I want the players to use the environment and try to just basically weigh down the balloon. You will be able to use anything from a simple crate to a small tower. (Moving larger objects will require more people; players will have to time each of their gravity guns and fire to achieve enough force to push the object.)
Slowing down the balloon bluntly will just require you to take out the team riding it.
But although I'm not going to talk about it much, there will be some stationary turrets available around the map to use. These can either be used to your advantage by helping your own balloon or for slowing the opposistion.
