I dunno about the sour penis' floating around the forums, but I thought it was excellent.

boglito said:I enjoyed it. Very quake2ish, which isn't a bad thing. I would have prefered some more "new cool" features in it (especially after playing through 1/2 the game), but ahwell, can't get everything.
Vehicular combat was very boring, but luckily also unusually easy.
Some very fine monster design.
Quake4 was made by raven, btw.
.bog.
madog said:Oh my bad i thought I saw IDsoft somewhere in there. Anyway good game. Doom and quake have a lot in common. They like to decorate the walls with mutilated bodies in such weird ways.

Samon said:Finished it the other day and I can quite honestly say, what the hell were Ritual/ID thinking. The level design is medicore at best, the story isn't in anyway realised and the vehicle sections are horrendous.
I'll type up more later, but I gotta go. The only thing enjoyable about Quake 4 was the combat.

stemot said:I thought the level design was probably the best level design in a single player FPS in the whole of 2005, loved the hanger levels at the start, and the levels with the failed transfers where well done as well.
I agree, the vehicle sections were average, but they were over fairly quickly and used to demonstrate the crossing of large distances more than anything I think, which they accomplish, shame they couldn’t have been more fun.
You say the combat was the only enjoyable thing, but that’s about 80% of the game, just combat, combat, combat, which is why I found it so much fun.
Also, it was Raven/ID, not Ritual/ID![]()

jondy said:I know 2005 was a dry year, but the level design was worse than FEAR, which was pretty average in that department
Ravioli said:Quake 4 is a great game, one of the best SP experiances i have had. The design and graphics were awesome, plus the sound! It had that grip on you, you feelt disgust, nausia, adrelalin (sp?), anger, and at the tower tops i was actually quite afraid, ya know when those flying chicks comes out of the walls. The story was great, and the A.I...:EVERYTHING WAS GREAT
Ravioli said:btw, for you people that say its just dull corridors, meaningless areas etc etc...well...DUHH, thats what Quake is! Everplayed quake2? They cant just change the whole concept of the Strogg environment like that! And also...who said that small corridors are bad? People always say about games that they have booring corridors, meaningless areas, dark areas....whats so bad about it? Are you discriminating corridors? Its like a copy of racism for christ sake...Games have settings, and some games have dark corridors as a setting, SO WHAT?? WHATS SO AWFULL WITH THAT? WHY IS THAT SO BAD?
For example Doom3, people say that its just booring corridors with dark areas...well, let me ask you this:
How does a space ship look like inside? Its very small, very very small. How do you think that a station on a planet with different gravitation and no oxygen to breath is? Small and compact, little movement areas, long corridors...its a ****ing laberatory on another planet!
Samon said:Honest mistake
But how on earth? Yeah 2005 was a dull year but heck, Quake 4 certainly didn't deserve to win any awards! The art design was awful...like Doom 3 it was a case of dull metal corridors that were so meaningless. The game itself was stupid as well...big pointless rooms...simply no art design given to the strogg or its people....
I mean apparently nobody can go into the Nexus sept Kane. How hilarious that the Nexus (an awfully dull place at that) is strewn with military ammo dumps. The bridge leading into the Nexus...what the hell...it is literally covered with human and strogg weapons. Wow, that’s bright Strogg!
Then the Nexus itself was pretty much a square deathmatch arena with some crap portals either side of it.
Example of the script:
"Voss what happened, the doors just shut?" "SHUT THE HELL UP STRAUSS A MAN JUST DIED."
Christ, truly cringe worthy. The entire design of the game was poor, poor, poor. The only decent bit was the failed transfers section, which didn't amount to much in the end.
Following several other FPS games in 2004, its horrendous to sit down and play Quake 4. Its simply a bad hangover from another era.
Quake 4 - 5/10

The AI...? Oh look, enemies roll out at me...whee!
stemot said:No, maybe he meant the excellent AI of your teammates as they actually help you by taking cover, lying down fire, charging enemy locations.
Don`t believe me? download the map from q4files.com that is just an ai test, one room and shit loads of techs, flanking lying down fire for their squad etc, none of it scripted.
jondy said:Sounds amazing, shame I wasn't fighting them.
As for Q4 being a memorable FPS experience, it had neither the originality nor the competence within its genre to last in my mind much beyond the 7 or so hours I played it.
I did like the design of the stroggified humans in the walls, though. The animation on those was sick as well. But again, not original. Just a generic fps experience with just enough polish to get away with it's lack of doing anything better than anyone else.
stemot said:Oh, and Kane was the only one who could enter the Nexus because of his Strogg implants, only strogg could go through the portal, as the half dude on the floor shows, I though they made that point rather well.
DiSTuRbEd said:Samon, bring your ass into MP, I will show you what its like to get your ass hurting in a DM game.
Samon said:Exactly, you just proved my point. Kane is the only one able to enter the Nexus. So why is there countless military ammo dumps in the place? And so much human weaponry leading into the Nexus..I mean what, did they spill some and failed to mop up?
Game on :E
Ravioli said:Most of the weapons and ammunition comes from Worker Stroggs, those who have hands to do technical works and they use Weapons.
