Normally, I would wait to buy a hard copy of a game. I like the feeling of having the manufactured cd/dvd. I, however, would much rather benefit valve rather than VU.

Heres the question: If I download HL2 via steam, can I burn a copy or something for backup purposes?

Also, if i do choose to buy it at the stores...whats the price of HL2: CE? I like the idea of having HL:S and some of the xtras.

Thanks.

Sorry no-one has replied to you yet.... They are all over at the thread about the guy who just got his gold copy in the mail today. :p

In answer to your question, you can either manually back up the files (which means manually reinstalling them), or you can use the backup utility on steam itself which they thoughtfully included with each program.

Oh, and by the way, if you need a case for your DVD/CD backup, several designs have been floating around the forums as well.

Not sure about the pricing of storebought copies tho, since I bought it via steam as soon as it was gold ;) (not that I am biased toward steam!)

You would be able to burn it to a DVD, but wouldn't be able to install it from there. You would have to download Steam. As well, Steam allows you to download it...whenever. If you reformat, redownload Steam, re-login, and download the cache files, exit Steam, relogin to Steam, and it the files will automaticly redownload. Or to backup the cache files, simply go here for a guide.
